Long Tall Wheat

                                           
Hi all, the card that I have today was inspired by all the beautiful goldenrod that is in bloom here, the fields and road sides are covered and when the sun is shining on the goldenrod you can see how it got its name.

For my card today I started with the background and the Long Tall Wheat and green ink, stamping first and second generations. Then I used my Twinkling H20's, I added the golden  dot's and air brushed the sky.  I stamped the Pumpkin Greeting on white card and did a wash of Twinkling H20's over the top. i stamped the Pumpkin Ribbon Slide and colored it with Copic markers then fussy cut and added the ribbon across the bottom.

Autumn Butterfly Birthday

While hopping around recently in blogland, I've seen alot of framing done lately.  I really like the look, so I decided to give it a try. Here's my take on a framed card and another use for those awesome Butterfly Ribbon Slides (681D).

I started first by cutting my card front from peach colored card stock. I inked the edges with orange ink, used a decorative border punch for the left side and then a corner punch on the right 2 corners.  I used Nestibility dies to create the hole in the center for my frame.  I stamped "As Another Year Flies By" (489F)  at the top of the card front and then ran it through the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  I added some orange ribbon to the the left side and decorated the left side of the frame with Prima flowers and brads.  I stamped the Butterfly ribbon slide twice, colored both with Copic Markers and fussy cut them out. I attached them by layering them and then adding 3 black brads to the body. All of this completed the frame card front.

The center of the frame was created by stamping a panel of peach cardstock with the Silhouette Butterfly Background (536H) using Versamark ink. Then I heat embossed it with black sparkle embossing powder and attached it to the center of a black cardstock base.  

My final step was to attached the card front to the base using foam tape to create the frame depth. Wouldn't this be great for a Fall birthday? I guess I have my Aunt's October birthday card already finished! Yeah!

Spoooky Halloween

Hi all, today I have a Halloween card. For the background strip I stamped the Large Original Plaid in green ink the stamped the Accent Bats over the top with black. This was layer onto a black strip with one edge cut with a spellbinder die.  I stamped the Fancy Pumpkin and colored the hat black coloring over the stars and moon this was fussy cut and attached to the background strip.The Spooky Halloween was stamped and sponged with green then layered onto black card. I stamped the Witches Hat Ribbon Slide and colored it with copic markers and added a green ribbon. everything was added to a black card.

Happy Tails to You!

Happy Friday!
I hope your week has been fabulous! This started out to be my CAS Challenge card for yesterday (if you haven't seen the DRS Thursday Challenge, please check it out!) But as things sometimes do, it got out of hand and ended up not as CAS as it was supposed to be. After the mishap, I surrendered and added a few more layers and extras.

It was going really well and I guess that should have been my first clue that it was all about to head south. My little dog Spot (or should I say Spots), was stamped and I added a little tan color to him and some spots cause he just looks like a Spot to me. And I had made a pretty quick background on the tan c/s using just one stripe of the woven plaid border. I was attaching Spot to his layer and I dunno...something that looked like ink...don't know where it came from...smudged the upper right WHITE corner of Spot's little box. I was able to save Spot by cutting him out and attaching him to another white layer (I washed my hands first). But by then it wasn't CAS any more.

So I punched the lower edge of the greeting panel then used pinking shears on it. I used a 1" circle punch on the button ribbon slide and threaded thru some left over thin strips of bg. I attached it to a slightly larger die cut circle and my 4.25 x 5.50 card was finished. Not exactly CAS but not too involved either.

Another Year Flies By!

I've used the Butterfly Vine as the focal point on my card front and added the Butterfly Ribbon Slide (681D) to the postage/photo area. Both were colored with Copic Markers. I stamped, cut out, and colored 2 of the butterflies and overlapped them. I added 3 brads to the butterfly bodies to hold them together and adhered them in place to give the illusion of a "flying" butterfly.

The card front was stamped with the "Another Year Flies By" Greeting (489F) that I split up to fit my layout. An embossing folder, a decorative border punch and some rhinestones created a very elegant birthday card. Wouldn't you agree?

Dotty Daisy

Happy Friday!

Are y'all having a great spring week? Except for a couple of nasty thunderstorms, the weather here has been terrific! Mostly sunny, a little windy, temps in the 60's. Just about perfect! With everything in full spring bloom, I thought this dotty daisy looked a little like some of my pink azaleas.

This is actually a fairly simple card. No fancy tools or punches or even any coloring. Don't you just love this new Dot Background stamp? It really dresses up plain pink card stock. I also used for the new daisy image. It's layered on top of a plain huge bloom and a button ribbon slide is on top w/ a narrow ribbon tied through it. I stamped a couple extra of these and split them in half down the right side.

The new Thinking of You was perfect for this layout and anytime you need a sentiment to go vertical. The finished card measures 5.5 x 4.25.

Ribbon Slide Colorblocks

Happy Thursday! Before I get into Valentine's Day cards, I thought I'd catch up on some of my thank you cards. This was a fun card for several reasons. I get to show you a brand new Ribbon Slide (G141), I like these colors and I was able to use up some scraps (always a plus!).

For this card, I embossed the ribbon slide and cut it out using a square die. I used a craft knife to cut out the inside portion. I didn't have a ribbon the right color that was this wide, so I took some wide sheer ribbon and attached three narrow satin ribbons on top. I used Lots of Lines Background (H366) and ink colors close to the card stock colors for my color block background.

I used an embossing folder on the larger, two color background and die cut two corner elements out of the pink. The tag was first embossed with another embossing folder, then die cut with a circle die. I went over the letters with a chalk writer pen to highlight them.

A Treat or Two or Three!

One of the things we'll be doing at our booth is a Make n Take, and I thought you might like a little sneak peak at our project.

Here are some of the stamps we'll be using ~

and here's a few samples of my "cards" ~

One of the fun aspects of these "cards" is that they have 2 hidden surprises. 1 is that the top circle pivots to show a message underneath ~

and the 2nd is the sweet candy surprise wrapped in foil under the ribbon slide.

These are so simple to make too! Step one is to invest in a bag of peppermint patties, and without removing the original wrapping, wrap them again with aluminum foil.

2nd - Stamp, color and cut out your chosen ribbon slide, insert the ribbon, wrap it around the candy and tape it to the back. Set that aside as you...

3rd - stamp your background paper with our giga stamp and punch it out with a giga punch. stamp the inside message slightly lower than center.

4th - Stamp the mega circle and punch that out as well.

5th - Lining them up together, punch a small (1/8") hole, top center and insert a paper fastner. 6th - Attach the candy to the top and you're all set, except maybe spinning it around several times, just 'cause it's fun!

Now it's time for ~

Your Tip ~ by Pat S. in WA - If you make a new style card and you really like it, taking a photo of it, so you have something to jog your memory later takes less storage space and time than making a second card. (So simple, yet I never thought of that!!!)

My Trick - Several years ago, when paper fastners were harder to come by, I found a good sized box at my local office supply and I still have some. Only problem is that while gold can sometimes be the color I'm looking for, most times it's not. My solution? Emboss them! Yep, it's easy too! I tap the top on my versamark pad and dip it into my jar of embossing powder, then heat it like normal. (Please note: you may need to wrap the bottom with a paper towel so you don't burn your fingers as you heat it!) On the Flower slide card above, I used Cotton Candy Embossing Powder and on the Oval card I used Black Sparkle.

The Ribbon Slide

Are you in the Allentown, PA area?? Did you know there's a stamp show this weekend (April 4th and 5th) at the Allentown Fairgrounds (302 N. 17th Street)? Please come and see us!

Did you blog hop with us yesterday? (you can still take a hop by scrolling down to Jennifer's post from yesterday - there's blog candy in it if you're the lucky one or two!) If you did take the hop and love Leonard as much as we do (and all of our fun new releases), we have them with us!

This week has been a little more on the busy side for me - show weeks are always busy, so I didn't have as much time as I would have liked for my stamping. I did however unearth this card that I did when I had a few spare minutes at the stamping show I did in March in Indianapolis. My demo at the show featured our Ribbon Slides and one of my customers cards inspired me to do this card.

These are the stamps I used ~



And this is the card we created.


It was so simple too! I stamped the background (using black dye ink) like I usually do except this time instead of starting in the bottom corner I left the bottom 1 inch blank, but then stamped side by side in rows until the rest of my paper was filled. The ribbon slide was stamped in black pigment ink and embossed using clear powder and then colored using a bright blue marker and cut out along the edges. The inside needed to be removed, which I did by using my craft blade, which created something similiar to a belt buckle. Because the opening of this ribbon slide holds a 1/2" piece of ribbon and I didn't have any with me in black, I used 2 pieces of 3/8" ribbon, slid them up from the back and then down throught the front and after looping them around my card I taped the ribbons on the back. All that was left was to adhere it to my black card and stamp, layer and attach the saying.

Just the way I like 'em - quick and easy!

Week 2 - and they said it wouldn't last!!!

My tip: Want to make your layers pop? Add a little ink to the edges of your layer. I do this by using my stamp pad. If my stamp pad is made out of foam, I gently tap up and down on the 4 sides of my cardstock. If my stamp pad is felt, I rub it slightly side to side on all 4 sides. Please note: do not rub side by side on a foam stamp as the paper can give your stamp pad a paper cut.

Your trick by Mary D. : Did you know that you can use a baby wipe as an ink pad. You just put a dab of the ink refill onto the baby wipe alongwith some other colors that look great in combination with it and you can do a multi-colored image or sentiment.

Pet Project

Taking a lesson from a very talented co-Design Team member, Vicki (Stamped Smiles), I've decided to show you how versatile a single sentiment can be. When I first received this Pet Sympathy sentiment from DRS Designs, I didn't think I'd have much occasion to use it:

Unfortunately, I almost immediately had two friends lose pets, so the sentiment received more ink than anticipated. This card was created for a friend whose dog passed away:

Stamps by DRS Designs: Pet Sympathy Greeting , Dog Paw Easy Background , Square Silhouette Flowers Ribbon Slide. Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Versamark. Cardstock: Brocade Blue, Black, Textured Silver, GP110 white. Accessories: pet ribbon, silver EP.

As I was inking the sentiment, I realized that because of the way the sentiment was organized, it didn't always need to be used only on sympathy cards. The first portion of the sentiment is appropriate for use on any pet-themed card. So, I decided to go with a happier theme and create a new pet card with the inside panel reading 'Congratulations on your new kitten':

A Tiny Little Birthday Bag...THAT GROWS!!!

I made this cute little treat bag with a really cool die cut shape (2 really, front and back) a little paper bag and a bunch of fun DRS stamps! This bag looks small... but when you look at the photos... IT GROWS! So you can put in a tiny treat or a giant treat in there! Here is how I did it!

I cut 2 of the die cut shapes. I just happen to have this die cut... but you could use any shape as long as it covers your bag. Then, I stamped the flower background and added glitter dots in the center of the flowers with a glitter pen. Next I stamped the scallop edge and punched it out with my McGill scallop punch. I added some more glitter dots to tie this and the background together. Next, the sentiment...I am starting to identify with this one!(LOL) Then for a little fluff,

I did the ribbon slide and added the chiffon ribbon.

I colored the balloons with copic markers.

To make the handles, I used an oval punch and punched through the front and the back to make the handles. You could add a ribbon on there to tie it closed if you wanted to.At this angel you can see that I used pop dots the life the scallop oval with the sentiment up a little bit... I like the way that looks... and then finally the picture at the bottom shows just how BIG you can open this up! I hope that you like this idea and will give it a try. This would be good for a gift card holder... or diamond earrings! thanks for stopping by...

A Triple Play

Welcome!

I spent last weekend in Dallas, Texas demonstrating our Ribbon Slides at a stamp show. My "interactive demo" has been a fun way for me to work jointly with my customers. This year as I started our show season I decided to give my customers more freedom and choices than I have in the past - and boy did it pay off! In past demo's I've had everything cut and ready to create one of two cards (you could either make the green card or the pink card). This time I cut my paper using an assortment of colors, and then carried the color choices to the ribbon and markers, and instead of having to use the ribbon slide I used in my sample cards I had 8-10 to choose from. In most cases, as the ladies sat down they took less than a minute to make their selections and we were off.

Well let me tell you, I learned so much!! It was amazing the color combinations that passed in front of me that I never would have put together. My one regret is that I didn't have my camera with me to take visual reminders of my favorites (of which there were many!). I won't make that mistake again.

What does this have to do with this post, you ask????? Before I answer let me show you the 3 DRS stamps I'm using for this weeks project ~

It was while I was in Texas that I realized I needed to use the Star Ribbon Slide this week. When I designed the star I kept picturing it stamped on a multitude of colored papers using several ink colors. I'm embarrassed :( to say it never entered my mind to color the small sections separately. I'm not sure if the lady who inspired me had it planned or if it was a happy accident, but the marker she was using stopped working, so she picked up another one, and that one stopped working as well. In the end 4 markers stopped working and instead of asking for another copy of the slide she ended up coloring hers like stained glass, with random colors here and there. Once assembled it was beautiful! I'm too OC to do the random thing, but to color in the sections??? you bet!

Now I'm not usually very good at multi - tasking, so I think I out did myself this week.
We had a lot going on at DRS that influenced my card choice this weekend-
1.) Monday's DRS Blog challenge was to use a Ribbon Slide as a focal image - (sorry I'm late!)
2.) DRS was the sponser at the Card Positioning System website and they had a sketch challenge for us that I wanted to use as well
3.) I wanted to use the star ribbon slide

When I combined all of those elements together, this is what I came up with ~


One card to meet 3 needs - how efficient is that????? and it was simple too. I stamped the star ribbon slide on white paper using black pigment ink and used clear embossing powder. Coloring them in was fun using extra-fine point Sharpies. I stamped the birthday sentiment using purple dye ink and then stamped the star background on top using versamark ink and once again I embossed it using clear embossing power ( I brushed off the embossing powder that was on top of the sentiment) All I had to do then was punch the corners and layer the back of them with holographic paper and layer it all together.

Isn't is nice when it all comes together?

Wishing you a Bright New Year!

Although the nights are still long, New Year signals many bright beginnings or at least the potential of brighter times ahead. What better way to celebrate this season than by creating your own bright spot? I first saw this impressive votive candle card technique in Pat Huntoon's August Technique Junkies newsletter, but put it on the back burner for later use. Since this is also the season of resolutions and one of my newly minted promises to myself is to try new techniques, this one seemed the perfect place to start!

Here's a view of the front of the card when closed:

The giant snowflake is one of the latest releases by DRS. The iridescent embossing is one of those 'happy' mistakes; I thought I was using the white EP with glitter. Turns out I like this one better! To add a little extra pizazz, I tied sheer, shimmery organdy ribbon through the coordinating Snowflake ribbon slide :

When opened, the card expands to form a rectangular luminaria with wings on either side to steady the card:

This snowman, also a new release, is embossed with the white glitter EP for additional sparkle when the votive is glowing. Vellum panels are stamped with the Interlocking Snowflake background . Swirling Snowflakes form a border to top the Stepping Back in Time greeting.



More snowflakes and one of the newest 'Handmade by' images to sign my work complete the final panel:

Safety note: do not leave any candles unattended; after all, this is paper! The mini battery-powered votives are perfect for this technique.
