Stars and Stripes!

Hi Everyone,
I hope you had a chance to enjoy the long holiday weekend with a picnic, fireworks or maybe just some crafting ;)
I decorate my home with red, white and blue decor around Memorial Day and it stays up until Labor Day when I change out for fall. So for me, even though the official Independence Day holiday has come and gone, I think red, white and blue works all summer long.
I made this card with one of the new stamps aptly named Stars Stripes Forever. Choosing to play off the theme of the sentiment, I used the Starry background stamp, stamping my background in navy. Then layered on some red and blue stripes. I added a ribbon from my jar of scraps and some Stickles for my usual bit of bling. I seemed happy enough with the CAS look, until I took the photo. Then it just seemed blah.
So, here is the fixed up version:
I cut out 3 embossed stars to match my 3 star brads and added some white doodles with a gel pen. Sigh. Much better. It just need that little extra somethin' somethin'.
Well, that's it for me. Have you seen all the great summer stamps from the latest release? Check them all out right here. Also, I'll be back here tomorrow with another card, so I hope you will be here too. Thanks for visiting us and see you then!

I liked the first one as soon as I saw it but you are right, the second one is 'finished'. I like the way you bridged the 3 stars over the color changes. I like doing that as I believe it ties everything together.
What great cards! I agree with Bill, I liked the first one, and then I saw the second. WOW! What a difference those 3 stars and a few dashed lines make!
Karin, you crack me up. I like both versions. The CAS works well, too, but I DO like the embossed stars!
Thanks for the tip of cutting out the embossed images! I have that embossing folder and never gave that a thought! What a great tip! THANK YOU!! (Love the cards too!) I'm so glad I've discovered this website!!!
Wow! These are terrific! Love 'em both Karin!
Both are fabulous, Karin, but I really love the pumped up version! The stars and doodling really add that special touch.
