Palm tree Retirement

As with most stampers when we receive a mailbox full of new rubber we go crazy & begin to stamp with them almost immediately after ripping open the packages. But, just like the ones stashed away on our shelves the newness wears off and they get pushed aside and forgotten about. Have you really ever looked at the stamps you already own to find new ways of creating with them? That's what I did for today's post with one of the older DRS Designs stamps.

For this card, I created my own background papers but, I used the main image on my card to create it. I didn't have to buy a separate background stamp to make it. Look closely at the main image on this card compared to the 2 different backgrounds on it. See any similarities? Do I have you wondering yet?

Honestly, this was a pretty simple card to make, all it really took was a little time and use of the masking technique. I created my focal image first and stamped half the Brush Flamingo image by using the Tips and Tricks technique mentioned in Sue's post on the DRS Designs Blog. Then, I stamped the "Underpaid Retirement Greeting" next to it.

I made the backgrounds by stamping the image on post it notes & cutting a palm tree & the flamingo out. Then I used a sponge dauber to sponge around each one repeatedly in different inks on white cardstock. Easy peasy, that's it! I thought the flamingos looked funny without legs, so I just used a black Gel Pen and a ruler to drawn them in just as they are in the image.

The main image was colored with Prismacolor Pencils and blended with Gamsol.

What a fun way to create a background and to make your stamps even more versatile! Great combination of sentiment and image for the retirement theme, too.
