More Last Minute Gifts: Tile Coasters

We're down to the wire -- only six more crafting days until Christmas! And if your gift list is still as long as mine, you need quick ideas that don't look like last minute gifts. Follow the easy steps below to create gifts with that 'wow' factor!

Supplies: Stamps, Tile coasters (found at any home supply store), Stazon or other solvent ink, mini felt pads, markers, matte sealer spray.

Easy Background stamps are perfect for this project since they are designed to achieve a random look with no complex effort.
Using solvent ink, stamp design to cover the coaster. Allow to air dry or use a heat embossing gun to speed the heating process; be sure ink is completely dry prior to coloring image.

Color images with your choice of techniques such as markers or chalks. Remember that alcohol-based markers are not compatible with Stazon ink and will cause the design to smear. Again allow time for drying, then spray with sealer. The sealing step is especially important if chalks, markers, or other non-permanent coloring techniques are used to prevent colors from bleeding when water condenses on the coaster. These coasters were sprayed four times, allowing drying time according to the label between coats. To test color fastness, slightly dampen a paper towel and press gently against an inconspicous area. If color wicks off the coaster, repeat sealant coats.

Once the sealant is dry, place felt pads in each corner to protect furniture surfaces when coasters are in use. Other options for the protective surface include cork and felt sheeting cut to size. Pre-packaged felt pads are definitely the quickest option and add a nice finished touch, too.

The completed project:

Although it was tempting to go with holiday images, I decided an all-season theme would be more practical for year-round use. To complete the gift, I tied the coasters with a wide ribbon and added a tag with the perfect DRS sentiment:

Happy stamping!

Beautiful coasters, Jessica!! I love the versatility with the different seasons -- then I could change my coaster on my desk to match the season out the window. :) The sentiment on the tag is a perfect match! Kel
