Mitten Ornament

I know that Christmas is officially behind us but I haven't had the chance to share with you guys the details of this ornament card that I made for the DRS Designs Ornament Challenge. Making these ornaments was a fun family project that I was able to get my girls involved in without toooo much mess ;).

First we made the dough (2 c. flour, 1 c. salt, 2 tbs. flour, 1 c. water), rolled it out and stamped stamped the images firmly into the clay. I then carefully cut out the shape of the mitten with the tip of a sharp knife, poked a hole with a straw in the top and baked at 250* for one hour.

When they were cool we painted them using red glossy acrylic paint. I really wanted to showcase the texture of the mitten so I used a stiff brush and carefully added paint in small amounts. I tied a little bit of twine to the top for hanging and voila! A beautiful handmade ornament. Add this to a matching card and you have yourself a perfect holiday gift. It's never too early to get started on next year's gifts ;)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!
