All That Glitters, part 3: Trash to Treasure

>> Thursday, September 11, 2008

The sparkle continues with one final glitter tutorial! This fun technique takes an item that normally ends up in the trash (a used dryer sheet) and turns it into a sparkling focal point.

Supplies needed: A bold image stamp, waterproof black ink, other inks for detailing the stamped image, aquapen, spray adhesive, used dryer sheet, and iridescent glitter.

Stamp image in waterproof ink. (Note: Bold images work best for this technique because fine detail images tend to disappear under the texture of the dryer sheet.) After allowing the image to dry, add color to desired areas with aquapen. (Another tip, again learned the hard way: lighter accent colors make the main image pop more once glitter is added. )

Spray image with adhesive. If you are lucky enough to own a Xyron, run the image through upside down so the stickiness is on the image side. Smooth the dryer sheet over the adhesive and trim excess.

Apply glitter and rub into dryer sheet. Tap off excess glitter. Your image is now ready to be the center of attention!

The most difficult part of this technique is actually capturing the glitter in a photo. An added bonus is that a card using this technique will not only sparkle, but have that 'fresh-from-the-dryer' scent, too!

Here is the finished card:

Magical Halloween Wishes continues the sparkly theme with glitter pen accents on the starry background (H124) and sparkling white embossing powder for the sentiment (G609).

This card also features sneak peeks of two new stamps which are part of the upcoming release: the cat square (H1028) and witches' hat ribbon slider (E1041). Stay tuned for more fun projects and the unveiling of all the new autumn stamps, available for purchase September 15th!

TERRIFIC card. I love the cat image behind the glitter. Makes him look like he is in a frosty window, too. Terrific instructions, and I love that sentiment as well. Thanks for showing us a great way to recycle those dryer sheets. :) kel
