Happy Holidays

>> Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Hi Everyone,

It's hard to believe that this is the last day of July!  Doesn't the summer always seem to fly by?  Time is just so crazy :)  I hope that you have been able to get a leg up on your holiday card making with our Christmas in July challenges that we've been hosting here on the blog.  I know that I've been inspired to make some myself, and these new Christmas stamps that were released over the weekend, are sure to get your mojo flowing!

I used the beautiful new Christmas French Horn stamp for my focal image. It's such a classic image for the holiday season... I colored it with Copic markers, die cut and added a pale green die cut mat.  I felt it needed a little something else, so I stamped it again and fussy cut the poinsettia.  After coloring it, I attached it with a pop dot.

The backgrounds were created using the Jingle Bells stamp and the new White Christmas Text.  Since I used a white craft ink on the bottom, I went ahead and heat embossed those words as well. I finished the card by layering up the Small Happy Holidays for a greeting.

Be sure to stop by the DRS Designs store to check out all of the new Christmas stamps.  You will fall in love with them!

Have a great day!

Snowmen are the best!

>> Monday, July 30, 2012

I think snowmen are so fun and I love this adorable tiny snowman stamp just released by DRS Designs, especially when paired with the new Snowmen Melt Your Heart Sign.

I started by stamping the new Pine Tree Snowdrifts on white CS, then added some color with my copics. The Tiny Snowman and Sign were also stamped on white CS, colored with Copics, cut out, stickles added and then popped up on the main image panel with pop dots. The White Christmas Text Background  was stamped in Taken with Teal on the teal card base, then an oval was cut using nesties. The main image panel was attached to the inside of the card. A white oval border was cut using nesties and attached to the card front. Teal rhinestones were added to the scallop oval to finish the look.

This is the final week of DRS Designs' Christmas in July Challenge. We'd love to have you join us!!

Until next time,
shelia

A Treat For You!

>> Saturday, July 28, 2012

Hello to everyone in blogland!  I hope the end of July is treating everyone kindly! My 24th wedding anniversary is tomorrow.  Tonight, my husband is taking me somewhere special...though I don't know where that is!  So, I decided to do the Treat for you greeting (1063C) with the daisy basket (671L).  I used daffodil delight to color the daisies and a chunky yellow glitter for their centers.  The basket was colored in with crumb cake.  Some polka dotted soft suede ribbon paired with the vanilla, soft suede and mustard cardstock.
DRS Designs has some terrific new Christmas stamps available for purchase starting today.  Above is a peek  at what I think is going to be one of my faves this season..the image along with the sentiment.  Head on over to the DRS Designs store and get yours today!

Take care,

Pam

Candy Cane Christmas

>> Friday, July 27, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
It's been a mostly hot week here and I'm starting to really look forward to the cooler temps of fall. I think most of the country has had just about enough of being in this easy bake oven called summer.

So think cool thoughts and maybe make a Christmas card or two. I'm showing one of the new releases (tomorrow!) and a couple of favorites. The new one is the Multi Christmas Greeting I used all over the background. I inked it up w/ four colors of Distress inks and stamped it a bunch of times. I had a green tag cut from some earlier project so I stamped the polka dot background on it and added my colored and cut out candy canes. I topped it off w/ a big red velveteen bow and my festive card is finished.

If you haven't checked out our DRS Thursday Challenge, you have plenty of time to enter and you'll be in the drawing for a fab prize! Oh and be sure to drop by tomorrow for all the new release images!

Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Christmas Multi Greeting, Candy Canes, Polka Dot Background
paper: white, red, green tag
ink: Ancient Page coal, Distress Inks in Mowed Lawn, Pine Needles, Festive Berries, Barn Door
accessories: Tombow markers, twine, velveteen ribbon

Time to Relax!

>> Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Hello Everyone - This is Chrissy D today! :) Is your summer going as quickly as mine? We are getting lots of work done around the house, but I can't say we are having a "fun" summer! Just busy! Here is to hoping yours is MUCH more fun than ours! :)

On todays card, I used the LAZY LEOPARD image stamped with Staz On Ink. Using a watercolor brush, I painted the image with Creative Inspiration Paints, stippling in leaves around the leopard to create more shade.

I stamped the Retirement Greeting in black ink along the bottom and wrapped some spotted print ribbon along the bottom, adding 2 brads. Using the corner slow punch, I added some detail in the corner and added 3 brads to that. Adhering to the layers, I added Garden Green, So Saffron and Soft Suede as the base.

I hope you have a great day today! Thank you for stopping by!

Wild Thing

>> Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Hi Everyone,

I have another "wild thing" card to share today. I did a Z Fold, so that I could show off some background stamps along with the sentiment and the Lazy Leopard stamps.

I made my image panel by stamping the Leopard and then coloring him with Copic markers.  To make my sky and clouds, I used a punched scallop, and masked my sponging as I went along.  The tiny heart was cut was paper pieced when the card was complete, but that came from the Scattered Hearts stamp that I used for the front paper on my card. (Only stamped in red, of course :) )

I again used those same hearts stamped in red on the inside of my card.  I then masked those off, and stamped all over the paper using that lovely Peacock Feather that was in the last release of
DRS  Designs stamps.

So to play off the sentiment on the outside of the card, I added the I Love You stamp inside those hearts. And lastly, I wound some twine around the card, just to add another pop of red to it.

I hope you are having a great week, and check out our current card challenge with a Santa theme.  Playing along with us means a chance at a great prize!

Have a good one!

Wild Thing, I think I love you!

>> Monday, July 23, 2012

I just couldn't resist adding "I think I love you" to the Wild Thing in my title. My husband is a music buff. He knows the lyrics to so many songs, as well who sang them and when! I'm going to give this card to him. Inside I'll hand write "I think I love you!"  He'll get a kick of that!!

My card today features the recently released King Lion stamp and the Wild Thing sentiment stamp. The background was created using the Wax Paper Technique with Tim Holtz Tattered Rose and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks. The background makes me think of animals, so I thought it would be great for this King Lion image. King Lion is stamped on white with Memento black ink, colored with copics, cut with a nestie and layered on the same light brown CS as the card base. The sentiment is stamped on white with the Brushed Corduroy ink, cut, corner punched and layered on the same brown CS. Four tiny brown button brads were added to complete the look.

Don't forget to join in the Christmas in July challenge at DRS Designs. This week's challenge is to make a card using a Santa image. We'd love to have you join in the fun!

Until next time,

Happy Shark

>> Sunday, July 22, 2012

Hello everyone, the card that I have for you today features DRS designs The Happy Shark, Killer Birthday Greeting, and Bubbles.

From a gray card I cut a circle with a spellbinder die, then used a smaller die to cut a frame from black card I stamped and embossed in black the Killer Birthday onto vellum. Then I sponged on blue ink. The Happy Shark was stamped onto white card, and copic markers were used to color the image. I used scissors to cut out the shark. The bubbles were stamped on the velum and I used Glossy Accents to add some depth. Then I mounted the shark with foam tape. The vellum was attached to the back of the card.

Have a wonderful day,

Janett

Christmas in July!

>> Saturday, July 21, 2012

I feel especially lucky today!  I get to showcase a brand new release from DRS Designs....Love it!  It is our Greetings of the Season greeting (310K).  I paired it with this neat embossing folder that I inked up with some old olive and used the negative side of it.  The main image was stamped in noir black and colored with old olive and poppy parade and then a thick coat of crystal effects was applied to the colored images and popped up.  A simple knotted ribbon on the corner.  I think I will be making several of these cards for the Christmas season!
Have a lovely day and head over to the store to check out the rest of the wonderful Christmas designs we have for you!

Super Sweet Watermelon

>> Friday, July 20, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
With this hot, hot summer, doesn't a little cold, sweet watermelon sound good? Watermelon is one of my fave things about summer. So I really love this new watermelon border image. After stamping it, I colored it markers. The different colored strips were embossed w/ a checkerboard embossing folder, trimmed and attached next to each other on top and underneath the watermelon.

For the sentiment, I used a stamp positioner to combine the parts of two sentiments on the red card stock. I used an oval die to cut it and the two colors of green (for the rind) and a scallop oval die to cut the top to look like big bites. The "seeds" were made with a black glaze pen. I made white dots on black card stock and used a 1/2 inch circle punch to cut them then placed clear epoxy stickers on top. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend and try to stay cool!

Supplies:
stamps: Watermelon Border, Unforgettable Birthday Greeting, Super Sweet Christmas Greeting
paper: white, red, lime green, dk green, lt pink, small scrap of black

BLUE CHRISTMAS

>> Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Hello Everyone - I forgot to upload my card last week for the BLUE CHRISTMAS Challenge, so I am sharing it today! Have you played along yet? You still have a few hours left to join in on the fun!  This week's challenge is to create a BLUE CHRISTMAS CARD and all of the details can be found HERE.

I started my card by stamping the  Triple Tree with Snow on light blue card stock, several times to create "branches" for my tree. I then stamped the Three Wisemen Ornament  on white card stock  and colored with my Copics. Using scissors, I cut out the ornament and adhered to the card stock. Using Pacific Point Ink, I stamped the Joy to the World Greeting and adhered all of the layers of card stock together.

Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!

Hey, it's not Valentine's day...

>> Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Hi Everyone,

No, I'm not crazy :)  I really do know what time of the year it is.  I just thought I would shake things up, and this was an idea I had right when I saw the new One Line Wild Thing sentiment here at DRS Designs.

Isn't this a fun little anniversary card, briefcase note or Valentine's card? Obviously, it's simple and very quick.  I used the Small Cat Print to make the background and added the die cut heart and a row of bling.

So easy.  Now there's REALLY no excuse not to tell that someone special how much you love them with a handmade card :)
Remember that we're still celebrating Christmas in July with our Thursday challenge here at the
DRS Designs blog.  The theme this week is "Blue Christmas/Winter".  Join us and get a jump start on your holiday cards.

Have a great day!

Enjoy Your Monday!!

>> Monday, July 16, 2012

Well our temperatures are creeping back up into the upper 90s again this week. So I thought I'd share a card that gives me a refreshing feeling! Nothing beats ice cold watermelon on a hot day!!

My card features the cute Watermelon and Friend stamp (798H) as well as the recently released Watermelon border (095H). Both images were stamped in Memento Black on white card stock and colored with Copics. I cut out the two borders and attached them to the blue layer after running it through my CB using a Dream Weaver embossing plate. The main image was cut with a nestie and layered on a red oval that was attached to the blue panel after adding the red gingham ribbon. The sentiment Enjoy Today (1145C) was also stamped in Memento Black on white cs, punched with a square punch and then I rounded a couple of the corners before layering it on blue and red CS.

Stay cool this week!!

Happy Saturday.  I am back from my two week Hawaiian vacation and it was so memorable.  I went a little goofy with my post for today and put the new King Lion on a beach towel...sunning himself.  For the towel I stamped the large original plaid in pink passion and lovely lilac and then cut the ends randomly.  Some fun flower brads and the greeting to go with this regal sunbather.
Have a lovely weekend and stay cool!

Gilligan's Catch of the Day

>> Friday, July 13, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
This little water scene looks kind of like it does outside here. The stupid hot spell broke last weekend but now we're being inundated with rain! Not just the softly falling stuff...more like buckets of it. With all the thunder and lightning to boot. I'm just grateful the leak in the chimney was finally fixed!

This little guy seems really surprised by his big catch! He kinda looks like a Gilligan to me so I named his boat the Minnow. And like the line in Jaws, "I think we're gonna need a bigger boat!" Anyway, I cut out a boat shape and added some wood plank texture to it. Then cut out Gilligan and his fishing pole. When I figured out where to put him, I used a stamp positioner to stamp the line and hook. No way was I cutting those out! I used a blue rainbow pad and water brush for the water then stamped the waves on top. The greeting was stamped on my "sun" and I added some punched clouds and my happy shark.  The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

paper: white
ink: Ancient Page coal & cobalt, Kaleidacolor blue breeze, Memento dandelion & cantaloupe
accessories: Spellbinders circle die, Duff wood plank texture sheet, cloud punches, stamp-a-ma-jig

SUNRISE

Hello Friends - Welcome to the DRS Designs Blog today! I absolutely LOVE this image from DRS Designs. It gives you the feeling of "vacation" just from looking at it!

On my project today, I used the Torn Window technique from the Technique Junkie Newsletter and the February/ March 2012 issue.

I started using the Brush Beach Sunrise set , 768L and using the Inspiration Paints and an Aquapainter, I painted the scene. I used the You are My Sunshine Greeting, 1089D. Once the greeting was stamped, I distressed the Soft Suede Ink over the Vanilla cardstock to create a more rustic look!
I layered the Soft Suede card stock on Pacific Point card stock and then used Tempting Turquoise as the base of my card. I hope you enjoyed my project today! Have a nice day!

Ahhh....Lemonade!

>> Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Are you in the middle of a heat wave?!  It's not just hot where I live, it's been CRAZY hot!  So my post today is a card to help beat the heat :)

The most recent release at DRS Designs included this refreshing pitcher of Lemonade, so I colored it up, die cut it and used it as my focal image for my share today. I also embellished my ice cubes with a bit of glitter on this too. Sweet and tart at the same time, lemonade is one of my very favorite summer treats

The backgrounds were made using the Easy Dot Background (a go to favorite of mine!) and the new Citrus Border stamp.

The Enjoy Today sentiment fit nicely in the corner and I found the perfect little citrus brad embellishment in my stash to finish it off.

Thanks for dropping by and remember to stay cool!

Happy Monday!!

>> Monday, July 9, 2012

Trust everyone had a good weekend! My daughter and mom returned to Virginia yesterday. We had a great time together and got lots of wedding things accomplished. Yeah!!

Today I have two cards to share. The first one features DRS Designs just released Happy Shark (153G), Killer Birthday (175D) and tiny Bubbles (130A).

I started with a white card base, added several strips of dark and light teal that were punched with a Fiskars waves border punch and embossed with the Swirl CB folder. The sharks were stamped on white card stock, colored with copics, cut out and placed between the waves. After cutting the circle for the sentiment, I stamped the tiny Bubbles in Taken Teal. To make them light colored, I stamped on scratch paper first, then on the circle. The sentiment was stamped in Taken with Teal. I added a teal ribbon before attaching the sentiment. These happy sharks are so cute!!

For the month of July DRS Designs' weekly challenges will feature Christmas cards. This week the challenge is Christmas in general.  My card today uses DRS Designs Giant Poinsettia (093M) and Large Script Merry Christmas (286K). I enjoy making Christmas cards a lot, so I'm really excited about this months' challenges!

The card base is Bazzil green with a layer of white attached that's been embossed with the CB swirl folder. The Giant Poinsettia was stamped in Memento Black on white card stock three times. After coloring all three images with copics, two were cut out and layered on top of each other. I used yellow stickles for the center of the top layer. They are layered on the same green base. Merry Christmas is stamped in Memento Black on white card stock and cut with an oval nestie. I sponged Real Red around the oval while it was still in the nestie die, then layered it on a scallop oval cut from the green card stock.

I hope you'll join in the Christmas in July challenge this week. There's still time to play along. Entries must be in by Wednesday evening.

Until next time,
shelia
