Halloween Spirits

>> Friday, September 30, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Are you ready for a little Halloween Spirits? And I don't think we're talking about the little ghost, lol. Isn't that a tasty little cocktail lineup? That's what I'm talking about! I'm pretty sure the 2nd one is a Margarita but you'll have to take your chances on the other three. Probably some eye of newt or bat wings in those.

For my "spirits" card, I stamped the greeting and added a little color. The drink lineup was stamped above it and colored as well. I left enough room to make a little shelf under the drinks and add the different colors of drippy goo. The wine glass & bottle were die cut on my Cricut and added to a shaped die cut panel. I added the little ghost since he also qualifies as a "spirit". He sure does remind me of the Casper cartoons. The finished card is 5.5 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend and do whatever the "spirit" moves you to do, lol!

Supplies:
stamps: Halloween Spirits & Booze, Drink Line Up, Small Ghost
paper: white, black, orange, purple, scraps of yellow & lime green
ink: VersaFine onyx
accessories: drippy goo border punch, Spellbinders labels 6, markers, Cricut machine w/ Weekend in Paris cartridge

Wishing You...Spirits and Boo-ze!

Can October be right around the corner?
Okay, then, you know what holidays are coming up, yes, Halloween.
DRS Designs has some pretty "spooky" new releases.

I stamped it with Versamark ink unto white glossy card stock. I embossed with white detail embossing powder.
Then I daubed yellow, orange, purple and navy ink across the card stock to make the white pop!
I also added the  small bat and moon (898C) embossed with black detail powder and popped it up over the sentiment.
I added a vampire punch and bat for embellishments.

I cut out the image using a Spellbinders die and layered it unto purple card stock.
The spooky eyes (647H) were done with white detail embossing powder on black card stock.
I added a purple ribbon, orange button with purple floss and finally mounted all onto orange card stock.

Fly on over to the DRS Designs store and check out their new releases!

Spooktacular Halloween

>> Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Hi Everyone,

Are you getting ready for Halloween?  I personally have to wait a bit longer.  Yes, I can put out my decorations, but I definitely canNOT buy my candy yet.  It wouldn't make it a week at home with me, lol!

My card today is of the cute variety rather than spooky.  I use the new Spooktacular Halloween greeting along with that cute Witchy Frog Brew.  After coloring her up, I cut her out and attached her with pop dots.  I also added some sparkle to her brew, but not sure if it shows up in my photo.

The stamps I used for my background panels were:

The Shooting Star stamp is actually one from a Christmas release, but I loved the swirly tail that it has, so I only stamped that portion for my background.

I finished up the card with a die cut spider and a pumpkin charm attached to my ribbon.

Thanks for the visit today and remember, all of the newest stamps from DRS Designs can be found in the new releases section.

Have a good day!

Spooktacular Pumpkin!

>> Monday, September 26, 2011

It's official now, Autumn is here!
Have you already decorated for Fall or do you wait until it's officially changed on the calendar to do so? I feel that it's ok to decorate my house now with all things Fall and Halloween too.  Speaking of Halloween, have you enjoyed seeing all of the Halloween cards here on the DRS Blog? I know I've been busy stamping the new Halloween stamps a lot lately.

Today's card shows off the new Spooktacular Halloween Greeting (933F) and I've paired it with the Fancy Pumpkin (077G).  This image is one of my favorite Halloween stamps from DRS Designs.

This card was pretty simple to make. I first used Copic Markers to color in the pumpkin image and I then I used yellow Stickles on each moon, the buckle on its hat and the face. While the image was drying, I stamped the greeting on a separate piece of white cardstock and matted it with orange cardstock.  For the bottom layer, I used a spiderweb border punch on black cardstock.  The background panel was embossed with the Seeing Spots Cuttlebug Folder and the edges of each layer were distressed with black ink.  Three orange brads dressed up the background layer and fun Halloween ribbon dressed up the sentiment panel.  The finished card size is 4.25" x 5.5".

Hope you enjoyed seeing this Halloween card today.

Thanks for stopping by!
Smiles,
Jennifer

TMS and Candy Corn!

>> Sunday, September 25, 2011

Welcome!

Have you checked out the challenge at Tuesday Morning Sketches? Pop on over and check out all the wonderful cards made with this weeks sketch~

Once you have your creative juices flowing, stamp your own card using the sketch and you could be the winner of a DRS Designs gift certificate! Free Stamps! It's like Christmas coming early!

Sadly, I don't get a chance to win, but that didn't stop me from working with this weeks wonderful sketch!

I stamped my Candy Corn Wreath on white cs using black dye ink and after coloring I cut out only the inside and layered it on my lime green cs using 1/8" pop dots. I stamped the lime green cs with our new Tiny Happy Halloween stamp using versamark ink and white embossing powder. My background was created using the "candy" and "corn" parts of our Favorite Veggie Candy Corn Greeting.

I added 4 multi colored jewels on the corners of the lime green layer and the bottom stars are 2 size stars punched from purple and lime green cs and glued together. The 3 candy corn on top were stamped (in orange) using our Candy Corn Background and after coloring the bottom section in yellow and cutting them out I taped them to a small strip of cs and stamped them on top of my clear versamark ink pad and embossed them using clear embossing powder (note: as soon as the powder melted I immediately dipped them in the ep a 2nd time and heat set that) for a quick paper glaze.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck in the contest!

Happy Day to everyone!  My card features DRS Designs new releases:  the candy corn wreath and happy halloween greeting.  I stamped the wreath in burnt umber on white card stock, colored it and fussy cut it out.  I used only orange, lovely lilac and orchid opulence.  I stamped the sentiment on a kraft tage and adhered to wreath with orange embroidery thread.  For the door, I took a piece of hazelnut tan and swiped the craft white pad back and forth horitzontally.  I used the heat gun to set it and then ran soft suede back and forth horizontally to achieve the weathered door look.  A star brad used for the door knob.  I attempted to add some dimension around the perimeter.

Enjoy the lovely fall weather!

Who's Your Mummy now?

>> Friday, September 23, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!

I'm sure all of the DRS staff and design team are having a good time (and a laugh or two) ever since this Who's You Mummy greeting was released. I'll let you in on a secret about this greeting. As soon as we rec'd it, all of the DT started looking for a mummy image. What?? No mummy image?? So Sue (the person responsible) says, whoopsie, y'all (ok, the y'all part is me since I talk that way. Sue's from up north. I don't think they say y'all, lol) don't have to use it this year. We'll get a mummy next year. So what do we do? If the others are like me, it became a challenge I couldn't refuse. I think Sue is also responsible for making us think outside the box. And y'all are getting 3 (so far) ideas to use the greeting even w/o a mummy image. Pam showed you a super cute & creative Mummy card. Chris showed you how to dress up Frisky Florence as a mummy on her super creative card. Today, I want to share my spooky graveyard scene w/ just a partial mummy peeking over the fence. So I just have one question for Sue....Who's Your Mummy now, lol?
This little scene was created by stamping the two tree scenes w/ white pigment ink then I added the tombstones and extended the background w/ a white gel pen. I stamped the moon part again using black ink on a piece of yellow c/s. It was punched w/ the circle punch and attached over the base image. The mummy face is a punched circle I embossed w/ the stripe folder then added more torn strips on top and some googly eyes. The fence is more distressed stripe embossing w/ the top cut w/ deckle scissors. I added just the little bat (x 3) from the small bat w/ moon image. The finished card measures 5.5 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Who's Your Mummy??

>> Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Hello Friends, Chrissy D here. Do you have ever have cards you think you had a touch of Creative genius for and can't wait to create it? Well, this was one of those cards for me... I have had this idea in my head for THREE weeks ever since I saw the Sneak Peek to these fabulous fall images! I had a different ribbon in my head, but I think I used is on something else, so settled for simple white grosgrain.

Here are some details to my card... I started out by stamping  Frisky Florence on white storm card stock and colored her in very quickly and simply. I did not focus on the detail of coloring her because I figured she would be covered up! I then carefully cut around her and cut the hat completely off. I even trimmed the sides of her skirt down because it stuck out too far for the mummy look right. I used a Craft Knife to cut in between her body where her arm bends on both sides, so I could weave the ribbon through it.

Once  Frisky Florence  was cut out, I put adhesive on the front of her legs and behind them and started to "mummify" her. :) I worked up each leg and then her body. Some of the ribbon I cut and glued to the back to get her to look well wrapped!

I used the Marbled Smooch technique on the Blue panel and layered the card with Black and White cardstock. I embossed the blue panel with the Sizzix Flowers and Flourish set. I used the Spellbinders dies called Ovals and the Elegant Ovals along with my Grand Calibur!

Additional tools were a Martha Stewart punch, gems, mini glue dots, Paper Snips, Copic markers, white gel pen and a Black marker too! I added the Who's Your Mummy image to finish off my card...

So what do you think?

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great day!

Sketch Challenge

>> Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Good Morning!

Today starts our sponsorship of sketch challenge over at Tuesday Morning.  If you want a chance at winning a fantastic prize from DRS Designs, all you have to do is play along and link up your card at Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Here is this weeks sketch:

In order to accommodate the newly released Give Thanks for Family Greeting, I went ahead and flipped the sketch on its side.  I used the Woven Plaid, and the Fall Leaf with Acorn for the background papers, and after stamping them both in brown Versafine Ink, I distressed the edges.  That always seems to be a fitting technique for fall themed cards.

Following the sketch I added buttons along the sides, looking at them now, I'm not sure I should have left them naked, but rather added some twine.  Oh well!  And the corn and turkey were embellishment stickers that I have left over from scrap booking days gone by...

I hope that you can play along and earn a chance to win! And all of the newest stamps can be found right here.

Karin
