Graduation...

>> Friday, April 30, 2010

...is right around the corner.  Have you made this years Graduation cards yet?

Here are 2 Graduation cards I whipped up while hanging out with my stamping friends last weekend.

The tassel image (D007), the sentiment (E729), and the Lines O'Plenty background (H366) are by DRS Designs.  I used the same layout for both cards and only changed up the school colors for each of the grads that these cards are going to.  Isn't this sentiment perfect and oh, so true!?!?  I'm still wondering why we had to memorize all those weird math equations and do story problems. One thing's for sure...I'm glad I'm not in school anymore, but just becuase I'm not, doesn't mean I've stopped learning!

Congratulations to all of the 2010 Graduates!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Smiles,
Jennifer

Unfrogettable

>> Thursday, April 29, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff
Happy Thursday! I hope your week has been Unfrogettable! I just love this little frog with the big eyes and wistful expression.

My little frog was stamped and colored with markers and I used a label die to cut it out. I left the die in place and sponged on the yellow and blue inks. The frog was actually stamped twice and I cut him out and attached him on top of the base image. That wasn't the original plan, but I didn't like the background on the first one so I saved the frog by cutting him out and redoing the background.

The olive and blue panels were also die cut. I left the dies in place, spritzed them with water and embossed them again with a piece of vinyl mesh on top. I love the texture it gives to plain card stock. On the blue panels, I stamped the 3 leaf background on top. I used rectangle dies on the textured yellow card stock and I used part of a large label die on the right side of the big yellow panel. The blue dots were added with a marker. I used a smaller label die to cut out the sentiment, sponged as before, then split it in two. It's all attached to a 5.5 x 4.25 (A2) white card. I used the Splitcoast sketch challenge SC278 and color challenge CC268 for this card.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Supplies:
stamps: Frog on a Log, Un-frog-ettable greeting, Three Leaf Background
paper: white,olive, banana, blue
ink: permanent black ink, dye inks in blue, yellow and green
accessories: markers and water brush, Spellbinders classic rectangles sm and lg, Labels 8, vinyl mesh, foam tape

Bright and Colorful ....

>> Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Happy Wednesday!

It's been cold and rainy here for the past several days, so I thought I'd cheer myself up by making a really bright and colorful card!

I started by stamping our Interlocking Flower Background (H813) using purple ink on purple paper. After setting that aside I cut my green paper and stamped both our Grass Background (E059) and the top half of our All About You saying (H371) using spring green ink (I stamped the bottom half in purple inside). I layered that on bright blue paper. "Shell"don the Turtle (F720) was stamped on a separate piece of white paper then colored and cut out and attached it using 1/8" pop dots. I attached all to my purple card using double sided tape.

I added a little glitter pen to the center of all the flowers and to the hearts and dots on Shelldon's shell.

Have you heard that we're looking for a couple new designers?? Click here for more details!

Happy Birthday!

>> Tuesday, April 27, 2010

By Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

I have been making birthday cards alot recently and wanted to share a couple that I made using new releases from DRS Designs.

For this first card, I stamped the Happy Birthday Arc onto white cardstock and then positioned my Classic Oval Nestabilities where I thought it looked best and layered it onto a Scalloped Oval Nestabilities. This was attached to the card using 3d foam squares. Then I stamped the Slice of Cake image using black ink and colored it using Copic Markers. I cut this image out and layered it into place using more 3d foam squares. After putting the rest of my card together and putting the image panel into place, I applied some Crystal Stickles onto my cake image. I find that putting the stickles on last works the best for me because I am not a patient person!

Don't you love this? I think its funny. This card is for a friend of mine and I know she will laugh! I stamped the Birthday Test image using brown ink onto white cardstock and cut that out. I layered it onto some olive green cardstock and attached some brads in the corners. I stamped the Slice of Cake image onto the brown cardstock using Versamark. The patterned paper strip was found in my scrap pile!

DRS has some fantastic birthday designs and birthday greeting stamps! Be sure to check them out today! Have a great day!

I used glitter paper from DCWV for the background of this card.  I colored in "Sparkles" with a Spica glitter pen, but it's kinda hard to see the glitter on that portion of the card.  Think of all the possiblities with this sentiment!!

Cake & Candles

>> Saturday, April 24, 2010

by Julie Warner -The Write Stuff
Anyone up to a little birthday cake? Even if it isn't your birthday, I think there's always room for cake. This new cake image and single candle work great for anyone's birthday: kids, dad, mom, sis. Just use different colors and embellishments.

For my cake, I colored it using Prismacolor pencils and cut it out. It's attached to a large die cut circle and I stamped the greeting arc around one side and attached one cut out candle on the other side. I added yellow and turquoise circles under it, then stamped the spiro circle on white c/s and cut it out for the bottom layer.

I stamped a row of alternating height candles, colored them w/ markers and cut out along the top edge. The yellow layer has the bottom only cut w/ a scallop edge rectangle die. Along the top of the 4.25 x 5.5 white card, I stamped the stars background with pale buff and neptune inks.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Slice of Cake , Single Candle, Happy Birthday Arc,, Interlocking Stars Background, Spiro Circle
paper: white, pale yellow textured, lt turquoise
ink: Ancient Page coal, neptune, Anita's buff
accessories: markers, Spellbinders classic circle Nestie sm and lg, classic scallop rectangle lg., Prismacolor pencils, foam tape

Spiro Gyro Birthday

>> Thursday, April 22, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Thursday!
With 6 more family members having birthdays in the near future, I'm still hard at work on birthday cards. Between friends and family, you can never have too many birthday cards. I really love the DRS new birthday arc greeting. It makes it easy to add the greeting almost anywhere. Here I stamped it above my oval layers, directly on the card front.

The spiro oval was stamped, colored with markers and cut out. It's attached to a larger white oval I cut using an oval Nestie. The polka dot flower was done the same way and attached in the center. I made a faux brad and put it in the center of the flower.

I used a border punch and a line of dots embossing border folder on the the dark and light blue borders. The dk blue border has an additional punched green border underneath it and the lt blue has a white one. I also used the embossing border folder on the bottom and top of the white 5.5 x 4.25 card.

Thank so much for stopping by! "They say it's your birthday.... "

Supplies:
stamps: Oval Spiro Design, Polka Dot Flower, Happy Birthday Arc
paper: white, lt blue, dk blue, lime green
ink: Ancient Page coal, cobalt
accessories: markers, dot border folder, 1/4 inch hole punch and stylus (for the faux brads), Spellbinders classic oval Nestie, arched lattice border punch

Spring Break

>> Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Welcome!

It's spring break time here in CT and I've been having a lot of company! My nieces love to keep me company whenever they don't have school. I "dragged" 11 year old Krissy down to my stamping room to help me and this is what we came up with~

Krissy was coloring the Can of Worms G847 while I stamped the blue background with our Versatile Background stamp H369 and our Bait Saying stamp F840 using Vivid Turquoise dye ink. I got to color the Worm on a Hook G843 and cut out both the can of worms and the worm on a hook. We decided together where and how to put it all. We cut a slit in the "sand" to bury the can of worms. It was Krissy's idea to add the extra worms!

I told Krissy to stamp her own card and I'd post it here next week. It's time to get the next generation more involved - don't ya think?

Have a great week!

Inspirational Card

>> Tuesday, April 20, 2010

By Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

Sometimes life takes a turn for those we love and you need a certain kind of card. Well, that is what happened to a friend of mine from church. Last week, she fell down and broke her hip. I had created this card using the new release image, Silhouette Wheelchair and sent it to the DRS Designs store. But this is an easy card to recreate and it didn't take alot of time to make it again.

The sentiment, One Day At A Time, and the silhouette image just go perfect for this situation. My friend needed surgery and will be wheelchair bound for a while but doesn't know how long. Sometimes its best to just enjoy today and not worry about the future, isn't it? I also used the Knot 2.5" Mega Circle in brown ink and then cut it out.

I can't wait for my friend to open this card. I think she will really like it! Have you checked out the DRS Designs Store website lately? A new Design Team Call is up and you should check out all the info! Have a great Tuesday!

Teacher Appreciation Gifts!

>> Sunday, April 18, 2010

By Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

Well, the school year is almost over and its time to thank those wonderful teachers who teach our children everyday. It's got to be a hard job, don't ya think? I know its not a job I could do! So to show my appreciation, I have been making some gifts this week so I will be ready for Teacher Appreciation Week which is the first full week of May every year! Fun! Here is a set of cards I made that I think any teacher will love to have! Each card uses a different sentiment but I kept the colors and patterned paper all the same! Here is a close up of the cards!

This card uses the Get Well sentiment from the Get Well Prayer stamp. Inside the card, I stamped the rest of the sentiment to complete the card. I used various dies from Spellbinders to dress up this simple card.

This birthday card uses a new release called Happy Birthday Arc for the sentiment over the cute Picnic Basket. By using paper piecing for the basket and the tablecloth, I tied all the colors together! The rest of the image was colored using Copic markers. I love that picnic basket!

I'm not sure how well this card fits with the rest of the sentiments but I just couldn't help myself. The Coffee Trio stamp is just cute and the Espresso-ly Wonderful sentiment just sets it all off, don't you think?
My final card uses the With Sympathy sentiment and the new release Circle Spiro Design stamp. As you can see, I used the same Kraft cardstock base and colors for all 4 cards. I also made a box to hold the cards!

DRS Designs has a stamp for all occasions! Be sure to show your appreciation to a Teacher during Teacher Appreciation week! Have a great Sunday!

Gimme A Little Kiss... Will Ya, Huh?

>> Saturday, April 17, 2010

By: Dawn Knight
I Love this frog... If I had to kiss one... he'd be my pick!!! DRS Designs carries some really fun Frog stamps and sentiments to go with them! I LOVE the look on this little guys face...and his big googly eyes are the BEST! I colored him in with copic markers and the I added some sparkle to the water with a glitter pen. I cuttlebugged the backgound because I thought it looked like water. Then I added some depth by sponging the background with a darker ink color. I love the way this ribbon tied (pun intended) all of the blues and greens together... then, the fun sentiment and here is my creation! I hope y'all have a TOADally wonderful day and thank for hopping over! See ya tomorrow...

Happy Friday!

We just had new neighbors move in next door and I created this card a while ago to welcome them to the neighborhood.

I thought this cute Shoe House (L1069) by DRS Designs was perfect! I colored it with Copic Markers and masked off the edges with some Post-It Notes. Then I sponged light blue ink around the image and peeled off the Post Its.  I love the white border created by the masking.

"Congratulations" was taken from DRS Designs Warm and Snug sentiment (H131).

Above Par!

>> Thursday, April 15, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Thursday!
This time of year, I am always in need of masculine birthday cards. And I love this silhouette golfer image. If you look closely, you should be able to see that even when using a silhouette image, you are still able to add a little highlighting or shading to make the image look more life like.

I started this golf scene by stamping the trees with pine ink then masking off the hills and sponging in the ground and sky. I stamped the golfer and the flag and added shadows to the ground with markers and more sponging. I drew in the golf ball on the tee. For the golfer, after I stamped him with black ink, I quickly added highlights using a Copic blender pen. Since I used permanent ink, I had to do this immediately before the ink was completely dry. The blender allowed me to remove a little of the ink. I added some shading with a black maker. The sentiment was split up and stamped on top.

The blue background is the backside of a Swiss dot embossed piece and I used a dk blue marker to color the dimples. Three faux brads were added to the right corner.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope your weekend is way above par!

Supplies:
stamps: Silhouette Male Golfer, Golf (for the flag), Above Par Birthday Greeting, Triple Tree w/ Snow
paper: white, black, lt blue
ink: Ancient Page coal, leaf green, pine, sunburst, Memories soft baby blue, soft baby pink, soft green
accessories: Copic blender pen, markers, Cuttlebug Swiss dots folder, 1/4 inch hole punch and stylus (for the faux brads)

A bookmark by any other name....

>> Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Welcome! I hope you're all having a terrific week so far!!

I think I'll start at the end and show you my bookmark project before I go any farther~

Here's the story that goes with it ~

I'm not sure why, but for some reason I always seem to be doing things last minute. Take this past weekend for example. I knew we were going to be at the Allentown PA fairgrounds for a stamp convention. I also knew I was doing a make n take or a demo. Not wanting to be rushing around at the last minute I planned several days in advance (this is good for me :) what I would be doing and what I would need. I'm not sure why I decided to change my mind at 10 pm on Thurs. Must be because I think these bookmarks are pretty cool!

I can't take credit for the folding of these baby's, but cutting them off square and attaching them to a giga scallop square is my contribution. My thanks to the genius for coming up with the fold and recognizing how it will fit on the corner of a book!

I'm hoping between my description and my blurry photos (it's not you :) you'll see how easy these are.

1: Cut a strip of card stock (or find a scrap, if you have one ;) that's 1 3/8" x 6"

2: stamp or decorate the center 3 to 4 inches

3: Turn paper face down and fold the right side at a 90 degree angle in the center. Creasing the edge.

4: Do the same thing with the left side - making center seam as close and smooth as possible

5: Apply a small piece of scotch tape to hold fold together.

6: Align the folded part across the top of your paper trimmer and cut just where the fold begins

7: Turn paper 1/4 turn and trim again. Note, that the fold is now on the bottom.

8: Attach this square to the center of a giga square scallop punch out, or cut out a square to fit.

9: This step is optional (unless you're a little OCD, like myself and need to cover the center seam ;) Cut a coordinating square of card stock 1 7/8" x 1 7/8" and after checking to see if any trimming is necessary, attach it under the triangle pocket

10: Sit back and admire a job well done! These are so quick, I popped out all 4 of these in about 45 minutes. If I didn't have to write this post I'd still be stamping!!!

This is a great project for or with kids! and just think, you can easily personalize the next book you give as a gift!

Happy Stamping!

April 13th already? Wow, where did the time go? The weather is beautiful here in Missouri (where I live) and I hope its beautiful where you are! I have another card to share with you today using a new release from DRS Designs.

Sometimes, you just need a silly card for a good friend, don't you?

The sentiment, Got It All Together Greeting, kinda sums up my life last week! LOL!! Sometimes things just happen and that is the way it is! I stamped Sally Snail and colored her in using my Copic markers. I highlighted the flowers on her shell using some Crystal Stickles. This was a fun card to make. Its good to be silly sometimes!

After I stamped this image I thought "Wow!"  this is so pretty on it's own I'm not even gonna color it in.  Well it did also happen that all my markers were packed away from a class I taught over the weekend :)  Seriously though this image looks very striking in just black and whiteand can easily stand on it's own with no additional coloring.  I added an embossed background and a spiro oval peeking out from underneath.

Thanks for looking.

Happy Sunday!

By Debbie Seyer

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a great weekend. Have you checked out the new releases from DRS Designs? I know I always say this new release is my favorite but its always true! LOL Here are a couple of cards I made using the Lots of Dots 3" Giga Circle image. Enjoy!

For this card, I stamped the circle image in pumpkin and brown ink to make my background paper. I stamped the Small Script Happy Birthday in pumpkin ink and cut using my Classic Circle Nestabilities. The sentiment is layered onto a larger Circle that I stamped the Lots of Dots Circle on. I finished the card using some ribbon and brads!

I used the Lots of Dots 3" Giga Circle to make this card, too. I usually don't use background paper with my DRS Designs projects because DRS has such great background images you don't need the paper. But these scraps of October Afternoon paper where sitting on my desk and I just thought they went so well together! I stamped the Lots of Dots 3" Giga Circle using Apricot Appeal ink onto white cardstock. I cut/embossed using my Circle Nestabilities after I stamped so I could get the dots right where I wanted them. Then I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment using Pumpkin Pie classic ink. Those little flowers are from Fly Away Hearts and Flowers background stamp. I stamped the image using Rich Cocoa Memento Ink and cut some of the bigger flowers out and added Crystal Stickles to the middle. Then I stamped just the tale of the background using Pumpkin Pie ink onto the Kraft cardstock base. See those little flowers with more stickles? I just love glitter!

Make sure you check out all the New Releases from DRS Designs!

I made this card using one of the new release stamps from DRS Designs. It is a single candle all by itself and I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line them all up in a row I used my copics as usual and for the flame I used my glitter pens! Then i tied this big, shopping purple bow and here is my creation! I hope that you will pop over to DRS Designs and check out all of the new releases! Thanks for stopping by!

The Difference Between Cats and Dogs!

>> Friday, April 9, 2010

The Dogs Have Owners sentiment (E776) says it all and this  "Purr"fectly Comfortable Kitty (L815) shows you just how true it is! LOL!

I had fun creating this card for you today using a variety of different techniques.  I first stamped the image on white cardstock and used a Nestabitlity die to cut it out.  While it was still in the die, I used a mask to cover the couch and kitty, and then sponged light brown ink around it.  Next, I paper pieced each of the different colors in the image.  I then used my Copic Markers to color the Kitty's ears, eyes, nose and collar.

I split up the sentiment into 2 parts to make it fit better on my card front.  (Gotta love unmounted rubber!)  The white portion of the sentiment was heat embossed with white embossing powder.   The cat portion of the sentiment was stamped with ink and was also cut out with a Nestie die and sponged with brown ink while in the die.  Some ribbon and brads help add a bit more dimension to this card and make it complete.

So, who gets your vote, dogs or cats?

Thanks for stopping by today!
Have a great weekend!

Smiles,
Jennifer

To Bait or Not to Bait?

>> Thursday, April 8, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Thursday once again!

It really felt like Spring this week. Warm and sunny. It seemed like perfect fishing weather. But since I don't have a fishing pole, I thought a fishing card might do. I can remember fishing with my dad and granddad when I was little. I can also remember getting tired of having to keep putting bait back on the hook. Those fish were just a little too sneaky. Finally, I just threw the line in without any bait and wouldn't you know it, that's when I caught a fish.

For my bait card, I stamped the coffee can and greeting first, then masked the greeting and and stamped the worm on the hook. I stamped an extra can and attached it to the base image. Everything's colored with markers and a water brush then I added a little metallic gold pencil to the hook and metallic silver pencil to the can.

The background layers were stamped tone on tone using the Vicki's versatile background. The straw mesh is a wide ribbon and I unraveled the edges a bit.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you had a chance to get outside and take advantage of the nice Spring weather. And I'd probably choose to bait this time, lol.

Supplies:
stamps: DRS Designs - Can of Worms, Good Things...bait, Worm on Hook, Vicki's Versatile Background
paper: white, red, yellow, pale gray
ink: Ancient Page coal, bordeaux, stone gray
accessories: Spellbinders large rectangle Nesties, Prismacolor metallic pencils, markers, water brush, foam tape, straw mesh ribbon

Me? Teach a Class?

>> Wednesday, April 7, 2010

I've had many new experiences as a stamper, but one I've managed to avoid all these years is teaching a class in a stamp store other than our own. I'm not sure how/why I agreed to this cause I'm VERY nervous about the whole thing!

The first part of the process was coming up with a card - not an easy thing in my mind. It had to be just right! What do you think? ~

This card is a variation of a Christmas card I did a few months back. I was very excited to see that our New Spirograph Stamp P158 fit in the center perfectly! It was designed to be a background for the Mega and Giga punch outs, but fitting in the center of the wording circle was a pleasant surprise. I think it adds an element of fun, and I loved coloring it in!

I started with a 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 square of paper. I stamped the Spirograph circle in the center using black dye ink. The Birthday wording circle is our Birthday Arc Stamp E211 stamped in the center of each side. The Mega and Giga stamps were stamped on separate pieces of card stock and then punched out. Last, but not least I stamped the Butterfly Ribbon Slide, colored it and cut it out. I slid some green ribbon through the butterfly body and then attached them all together. I added a little color to the outside edge of the circle layer by rubbing it with a paper towel that I dabbed on my blue stamp pad. A little bling between the birthday arcs and I was calling it a night!

Keep your fingers crossed for me that I don't embarrass myself, and if you live in the Akron area and would like to join us, the class will be at The Cottage Stampers in Hartville Ohio on Friday April 23rd.

DRS will also be at the John S. Knight Center in Akron for the stamp show all weekend, please come join us!!

Oops! I got ahead of myself - before we go to the Akron show at the end of April we have to visit Allentown PA for a show this coming weekend. If you're in the area, please stop by!!!!

By Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

Hello! Hope you had a great Easter! Today I want to share with you a couple of cards I made using some New Releases from DRS Designs. I have been hoarding a bunch of glitter and decided to use it for these cards!

For this card, I stamped the Oval Spiro Design stamp onto Kraft cardstock using Versamark and then used some Heat 'n Stick powder. After heat setting, I added this beautiful glitter and heat set again. I cut around the outside of the image. I used the sentiment Enjoy Today stamped in Baja Breeze and also stamped the background using Designs Dots.

For this second card, I used the Heat 'n Stick powder with glitter technique, too. The main sentiment, Small Script Happy Birthday was stamped inside the Ribbon Scallop 2.5" Mega Oval and then cut out. I stamped the Single Birthday Candle all over the pink cardstock and added the glitter, too!

Well, I hope you love these new releases as much as I do!! You can check out all the new releases HERE on the DRS Designs Store website. Have a great day!
