Another Trip...

posted by: Cathy/Crafty Thoughts...

down memory lane!!! In keeping with Sue's trip down memory lane yesterday, I thought I would take a trip as well!! The main reason being because I just got back from a trip and seem to have run out of time to make a new project!!!

This was a technique challenge on SCS from May 2008!!! It was such a fun project, that I thought I would share it again!

Images by DRS Designs...

These bags are so fun and quick...depending on how you embellish them of course!!! As you can see, I had fun with this one! The patterned paper is from a party pack I found at Walmart last year some time. The sentiments on the front panel are two separate stamps. I added some stars cut with my sizzix. All the images were stamped in black craft and heat embossed with clear powder. Since there were two pockets to fill, I just had to add a pencil (for the puzzle) and while I was at it I found some candles and some balloons. Shhhh....don't tell my girls they now only have 98 water balloons instead of 100!!! They will freak out! (LOL) I added some ribbon and my party pack was done!

There are so many possibilities for these bags...stay tuned...I've got plans to make more...!!

Here is another fun card for today...images by DRS Designs...I really like this one!!!

I stamped the sentiment is gray first and then stamped it in black for that "off" look! The flowers were stamped in black craft and heat embossed with clear powder. I added jewels to the centers....of course! The background is stamped with both DRS plaid stamps in versamark and then heat embossed with clear powder.

Thanks for stopping in...
See you soon...

Ahhhhh, Memory Lane

>> Saturday, August 29, 2009

by Sue

Welcome!

Let me start by saying that my card today is not a new one, but a blast from the past - one of my favorites! If I'm not mistaken it was my first ever solo blog post too! Definitely a way to get extra uses from some flowers stamps you already own!

Here are the stamps I used ~

Using black pigment ink and clear embossing powder, I stamped M660 twice, once on red paper and once on a shimmery green. Then I stamped just the large flower of K662 twice, both on pink paper, then stamped just the flower of stamp K582 once on red paper. Then I sat back and cut out all of my stampings and layered them all together, twisting and turning to get them just right. I added a white paper heart punch out to the front center and a large mirror card circle to the back.

Next I worked on the background - using H813 and versamark ink I stamped the flower background on a medium pink paper and colored the center of each flower with a glitter pen, layered it with white paper and then onto my pink card. After attaching my layered circle, it was still lacking something, but a little bling added just the right touch!

I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane!

Now let's "ease on down the road" to my new "Pass it On" idea.

Two weeks ago I asked all of you to send in your best advice for dealing with "stampers block".
I'm pleased to say I got quite a few responses, which I'm going to list here. Several ideas were mentioned more than once and while I'm only using the first one I received, the blog candy will be sent out to each stamper, - Watch your mailboxes!!!

To refresh your memories (and mine too) here's the original post:

Our first topic is.........................

Stampers Block, Loss of Creativity, No More Mojo - whatever you call it, it can strike anyone, at any time. What's your solution, suggestion or comment?????

and here are your responses.......................

~The thing that always gets my Mojo back really quick is to start cleaning up my craft studio. I find things that I forgot that I had and then I get all sparked up to start creating something. Oh maybe what really does the trick is the fact that I would much rather be creating something than cleaning up a mess. (wink) - Linda B.

~I'm rather new, and this is appropriate for me too - trying to find where to begin. My answer for all this would be to take a chunk of time and devote it to just going through some "new to you" blogs. I love visiting the same bunch of blogs and there is always some great ideas - but when I visit new blogs, I also try to scroll into the archives and see what's been done a long time ago - and it never fails to give me some project or idea to work on myself. - Terri S.

~Look through my papers for one I would like to do something with, Check my BD book to see who's BD is coming up, If all else fails, I start cleaning house. That's actually when I usually get my best ideas. I stop when I get one and jot it down or else I'll just leave the cleaning stuff sit (bad huh) and go make the card. - Pat S.

~Look in the gallery at Splitcoast stampers-.... otherwise, just the internet and search. Never fails me :-) - Vicki S.

~Look at back issues of catalogs, take a walk through a card section in a store. - MD

~I resort to the Clean & Simple cards. I find that helps clear out all the other techniques that are running through my head. - Julie F.

~One of my tricks for lack of mojo is to come up with a color scheme. My tip for that is to go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a paint book. They show rooms with some of the colors of the brands they carry. Due to the fact that they want you to buy them and use them together, those colors of paper or ink will also go together. Once I have my color scheme, I usually will use one of my sketches from my sketch book but since it is with different colors, I love to see how different it looks. - Julie H.

Well, there you have it. You no longer have any excuses for not stamping :)

I'd like to try adding "Pass it On" to my post on the last Saturday of every month. Since I didn't receive any emails looking for advice I'm going to choose next months topic too.

I recently had a new stamper ask me about which paper cutter I use. It really got me thinking that as much as I use my cutter, it definitely has it's good and bad points. and if I was going to invest in a new one which one would I get. So, my topic is....

Paper Cutters, the good, the bad and the ugly. Which is which?????

***********************************************************************************

Please send all topics/suggestions/comments and all Tips and Tricks to submitdrs@yahoo.com Please be so kind as to include your snail mail address for faster receipt of your blog candy!!

Huge, Huge Thank you's to all who responded to the mojo dilemma! I'll need a topic for October - do you have a question you'd like a little advice on??

Jenny Giraffe and the Spotlight Technique

>> Friday, August 28, 2009

I just love Jenny Giraffe. Her face and smile are so adorable! I just had to use this sentiment. I used the spotlighting technique. It's great to focus in on one thing, which is what I was after for this sentiment. I stamped Jenny twice. I used a 1 3/4 size circle punch to punch out the head from the second image, colored it with Copics, and finally, I taped it to the first image. I used faux stitching wtih a paper piercer, template, and a marker. I also sponged the creamy caramel Top Note die with creamy caramel ink to get a darker shade to coordinate with the Copic marker. You can see more spotlight cards using DRS Designs stamps:

One Stamp - Two Projects!

>> Thursday, August 27, 2009

By Debbie Seyer

Hello! When it comes to purchasing stamps, I usually look for those stamps that give me the most bang for my buck. I haven't ever really purchased all that many Thanksgiving stamps but when I saw Pumpkin Bouquet (M684), I knew I had to have it! Then I challenged myself to use this beautiful stamp in different ways. Today, I came up with two projects that I think you will love!

For the card, I stamped the image using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto Ivory cardstock. I colored using my Copic markers. I then cut out the whole image. Using my Labels 8 Nestabilities, I cut my card base, brown & ivory layers. I mounted my pumpkin onto the ivory label and then added the Ribbon Tag stamped with Happy Thanksgiving (B069).

The second project is a bag-a-lope. You can find the tutorial on how to make an envelope into a bag HERE on Splitcoast Stampers. I covered the front and back sides of my bag-a-lope with a Labels 8 Nestabilities, too. I stamped the Stuffed with Reasons Greeting (G760) using Rich Cocoa Memento Ink pad onto an Ivory Labels 8. I stamped, colored and cut out just the top of the Pumpkin Bouquet and mounted it under the brown and ivory layers. I added an orange bow. I think this bag-a-lope would be great to give a Teacher, Co-Worker or Bible Study Buddy, don't you? I don't remember what its called but some candy corn mixed with peanuts would be pretty neat in this little bag, wouldn't it?

Here is a shot of just the card!

Supplies Used: Pumpkin Bouquet (M684) & Happy Thanksgiving (B069); Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla cardstock; Rich Cocoa & Tuxedo Black Memento Ink pads; Copic Markers; Spellbinders - Ribbon Tag Trio, Labels 8 Nestabilities, orange ribbon.

Here is the Bag-a-Lope!

I hope I have given you some ideas on using those Thanksgiving stamps. There are tons of projects to make using these stamps and DRS Designs has alot to choose from! Have a great day!

Paper Piecing Jimbo & the Gang

>> Wednesday, August 26, 2009

This took some time and patience with all the cutting, but I think it was well worth it. I stamped portions of the image on patterned paper from both Stampin' Up and Creative Memories. All the papers are long retired and in my scrap bin. I save the smallest scraps for two purposes: punches & paper piecing. I have 3 large baskets I think that I bought at Bed, Bath & Beyond, but I'm not sure since it's been a couple of years. They are used with a 3 tier shelf. One basket is for SU's bold brights and soft subtles scraps. The second basket is for SU's earth elements and rich regals scraps. The third is for all patterend paper scraps.

The cloud template was made using scallop scissors. I've figured out that it's best to use light colors when sponging a scene as well as sponging some of the ink on scrap paper first so that the color isn't harsh. Rather than sponging in one direction all the time, I also sponge using a twisting motion.

DRS Designs Stamps: Jimbo & the Gang (P891), sentiment (F935)
Paper: white, close to cocoa
Ink: Memento tuxedo black, creamy caramel for sponging the ground, soft sky for sponging the sky, SU close to cocoa marker, Copic markers
Accessories: ribbon, brads, eyelet, handmade cloud template
Techniques: paper piecing

YEHAW, Y'all!!!

Dawn Knight

I love horses. I love everything about them... I don't even mind cleaning stalls...they just make my soul happy. When I got this awesome stamp form DRS... I was so happy and I said out loud (to no one...) "WOW, they did it again!" Meaning... DRS came up with a new batch of wonderful stamps and this one tops my favorites list! For the first card, I used this gorgeous horse head stamp and stamped it in the same color ink as the paper for a subtle background effect. I added my most favorite saying and used ink to distress the edges of the paper. ( This saying is great for graduation cards too!)

Then I punched out the little flowers and added a little bit of bling for the center, and that was it! Simple... but I really love the look of the horses "running" in the background.

For this next card, I used the horse stamp also. This time I embossed it in gold on black paper for a more dramatic effect. When I used my die to cut the shape, I thought that this really looked like a wanted poster! I mounted the black onto a piece of brown that I stamped with an easy background stamp to make it look like weathered wood. Then I tore and distressed another paper to mount that on. Last was the brown matt and the scrolls in the corner for a little flair. I really love how these cards came out and how I can make two totally different cards with the same awesome stamp! It makes my creativity and my stamping dollars really stretch! Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Inspiration & Coordination!

>> Sunday, August 23, 2009

posted by: Cathy/Crafty Thoughts

Isn't it great when you see something and you are inspired instantly. How about when that inspiration yields a well coordinated project?!

A few weeks ago I was walking through the Target dollar spot and found a two pack of gift bags. I knew instantly the DRS Designs image that I could use with one of the bags. Here is the outcome...

Images by DRS Designs...

I used only one stamp on this project...the birthday candle burst (L451). I simply stamped the candles on white, colored and cut them out. I stamped just the sentiment onto my teal panel. (The nice thing about an unmounted piece of rubber is that you can cut a portion off which will make the stamp more versatile. Just be sure to make a straight cut so the pieces can fit back together to make your stamp whole again.)

The bottom portion of the card was made with strips of the colored cardstock to match the bag. This was a quick and fun project. I hope this inspires you to "get coordinated" with some of the gift bags you have just waiting to paired up with the perfect matching card!!

Be sure to stop by tomorrow for another DRS Designs challenge...this is an easy one that anyone can join in on! Don't forget about our Card Drive for Cards for Heroes that is going on now!!! Click HERE for more info.

Back to "school" ?

>> Saturday, August 22, 2009

by Sue

Welcome! I think I'm really pushing it with the title of this post, but I couldn't resist!

When I started this card I had sharks in mind, not dolphins, but by the time I was finished I had added our new friend Splash the Dolphin so they went back to being dolphins.

Here's the stamps I used in my card ~

and here's how they came together ~

This was definitely a "quickie" of a card. I simply stamped a fin by only inking that part of Splash, then added waves on either side. Then I moved on to a new line and stamped the fin and waves once again. I did it 4 times in all. Instead of coloring all of the paper with my markers, I dry rubbed turquoise ink in a circular pattern. I also went over my black wave lines using a blue bic marker. I cut out the top along the edge of the waves and fin and layered it all on bright blue paper and then white. I attached it all to my folded dark blue card and stamped the bottom right edge with the fun in the sun saying.

To finish it off, I stamped Splash, colored and cut him out and after slicing across the top of a center wave I slid him into the "waves" and taped him down.

Thanks for stopping by!

I'd like to thank everyone for their response to last weeks question of "How do you cure loss of mojo?". Unfortunately I ran out of time this week, but hopefully by next Saturday I'll have a wonderful list of things you can try if it ever happens to you. ( I had some great tips too!)

If you'd still like to share your technique on unblocking stampers block, ask for some suggestions on a problem you have, or share a tip or trick please email me at submitdrs@yahoo.com I'm sending out blog candy to anyone who's suggestion I use! New Release blog candy!!!

Party Girl, 2 Ways!

Happy Friday!

I love DRS Designs Cutie Pie Kids collection--I think they've become my stamping "staple." Whenever I need a little inspiration to help get my creative juices flowing, I tend to pull 'em out, ink 'em up, and color away! They are cute, fun, and oh so versatile!

Today I'm showing off the cards I made recently with my favorite Cutie Pie Kids image "Here for the Party"--twice! Both images were colored exactly the same, but I created two completely different cards with each of them.

This first card pairs up this Cutie Pie perfectly with the Birthday Burst sentiment.

Stamps: DRS Designs- Cutie Pie Kids Here For The Party (K670), May Your Birthday Burst Sentiment (G409)
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, SU! Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Smooth white cardstock by Office Depot, Colored Cardstock by American Crafts
Accessories: Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol, Bic Markers, EK Success Decorative Border Punch, Ribbon Unknown, Brenda Walton Adhesive Rhinestones By K & Company, Stickles, Copic Marker C1
Finished Card Size: 5.5" x 4 5/8"

This second card uses this weeks Splitcoast Sketch Challenge SC242. I used a post-it note to mask off the area for the grass and sky and sponged them with the appropriate colors. The grass blades were hand drawn with a green marker.

Stamps: DRS Designs- Cutie Pie Kids Here For The Party (K670), Interlocking Star Background (H819)
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, SU! Rose Red, Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in French Blue and Olive Pastel
Paper: Smooth white cardstock by Office Depot, Colored Cardstock by American Crafts
Accessories: Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol, Bic Markers, Ribbon Unknown, Large Blue Brad by Joann's Scrap Essentials, Green Zig Marker, Stickles
Finished Card Size: 4.75" x 6.5"

So, which Cutie Pie Kid is your favorite?

Thanks for visiting here today! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Smiles,
Jennifer

More Clean and Simple Style!

>> Thursday, August 20, 2009

Posted by Jessica G.

Weren't Renee's Giant Flower clean and simple (CAS) cards from yesterday gorgeous? We must have been on the same crafting wavelength because I had planned to use a CAS card featuring the very same image today! While Renee's cards are very elegant, my card is more on the playful side:

Stamps by DRS Designs: Bloomin' Huge Flower H1023, You are my sunshine sentiment D1089. Cardstock: Crushed Curry, Basic Black, Pretty in Pink. Ink: Pretty in Pink, Versamark, Copics. Accessories: Black EP, gold glitter pen.

This sketch is based on the CAS sketch challenge #19 over on Splitcoast Stampers. It's a simple sketch, yet versatile enough to be used with many different types of images (and sentiments).

The Bloomin' Huge Flower is also versatile, perfect for every type of card from Renee's elegant versions to my end-of-the-summer celebration version!

Clean & Simple Stamping!

>> Wednesday, August 19, 2009

by Renée (Stamping for Sanity)

**click on the photo's to see a larger view!**

Stamps: Bloomin' Huge Flower (M1023), Confirmation Greeting (G403)
Paper: Pure Luxury 120lb (GinaK), Kiwi Kiss (Stampin' Up; retired), Fabriano Notecard
Ink: Stazon™, various for colourig
Accessories: Aquapainter™, Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder

It's time for my last blog post as a Guest Design Team member for DRS :( I made these two cards using two images: Bloomin' Huge Flower and Confirmation Greeting. Both layouts come from the Clean & Simple stamping blog (#53 and #54). These were so easy to make and yet they turned out so pretty, don't you think? The flower is a stunning image and can easily stand on it's own. You don't always have to make a card that is mondo in details and layers for it still to be striking, eh?! (yes, my Canadian-ness is showing, hee hee!!)

Both cards use the same basic supplies. The main differences? On one card, I used a partial piece of the sentiment by masking the other words while inking. They are both embossed using iridescent ice embossing powder - the whole panel on the pink flower is embossed and only the purple flower is embossed.

I have sincerely enjoyed being a part of this team and being able to play with the fabulous images that DRS makes. And while I'm not quite done yet, I will still be around for the rest of this month and will always play with these images!! Thanks soooooooooo much for having me here!!!

Pizza Box Farewell

>> Tuesday, August 18, 2009

I have had such a great time this summer as a Guest Designer for DRS Designs! Everyone is so sweet and helpful and I have lots of new ideas and stamps to use! SO, for my last "hurrah" so to speak, I have a little project.

This past weekend on SCS it was Virtual Stamping Night. We have a bunch of challenges that center around a theme which this time was "Paper Chef." One of the challenges was to make a mini pizza box. SO many ideas came to me as far as what to put inside the pizza box! Here are the instructions on SCS for the box itself:

For this one, I made a simple set of six 3X3 cards. My Aunt lives on the beach and loves all things nautical. She also hates to wrap presents and hates to buy cards...she usually puts gifts in a pretty bag and folds a piece of paper in half to write as a card! ACK! SO, I figured I would leave these little notecards blank so she could use them for any occasion, and for either male of female.

The box is about 4X4 squared. The panel on the front is distressed and covered with a piece of mesh that I wrinkled up to give the appearance of a fishing net. Some hemp, a prima flower that I distressed and some buttons gave it a beachy look.
recipe: stamps: DRS Designs Conch Shell F1107
paper: Papertrey Ink Ocean Tides, Rustic Cream, White
ink: Ocean Tides, Vintage White, Chai distressing ink, Memento Timber Brown, Copic markers
Accessories: mesh, buttons, hemp, ribbon, prima flower, Glimmer Mist Sugar Cookie

Close up of front panel:

I carried on the beach theme on the 3X3 cards by using the conch shell alone. It makes a simple and elegant little card. There are 3 white and 3 in the Ocean Tides color.

Inside the box I tied the cards up with some ocean tides ribbon and some hemp and laid them on top of some crinkled up filler paper.

I think it makes a cute and easy little gift! Another idea would be to make it in a holiday theme and include a bunch of one layer holiday gift tags! I gotta get started on THAT idea!

Thank you again Cathy and everyone at DRS, I had a wonderful time being part of your team and hope to work with you all again someday!

Hugs,
Denise M.

Quick Treats...

>> Sunday, August 16, 2009

posted by Cathy/Crafty Thoughts...

It's that time of year again...the time when those lazy (where they ever?) days disappear and everyone starts to get back into a routine. Today I have some quick treat ideas for you as you send your kids back to school, start preparing for the school parties or just to say thanks.

Images by DRS Designs...

Any of these ideas can be easily adapted to whatever treat occasion or holiday you might need a treat for.

The "hooked on you (D1103)" treat contains gummy worms. Isn't that just the cutest worm (G843) you've ever seen?!!! I thought he would make a good Valentines treat too! Splash the dolphin (H1031) has goldfish treat, just "for you (A197)"! Perfect for a lunch box or party favor. The top teacher (G475)treat is a creme sandwich cookie. Perfect for a little teacher treat on the first day of school.

The glassine bags were purchased from All That Scraps.

Thanks for checking in...before you go...check out THIS LINK to find out how you can help DRS Designs in their first ever card drive to benefit Cards for Heroes. We hope you can be a part of this with us.

A Cheery Get Well

>> Saturday, August 15, 2009

by Sue

Welcome!

I'm so glad to be back! Unfortunately life got so busy 2 weeks ago that it got in the way of my stamping (the nerve!!) and then computer problems compounded the problem. But I'm back this week with a fun new card for you. I also have a new idea too!!

Here are the stamps I used in today's card ~

I can't tell you how much I'm loving this new "Bloomin' Huge" stamp! Beware - it might become my favorite for the next several weeks!

and here's my card ~
Let me start by confessing that this card didn't end up even close to where it beagn (for starters, it was supposed to be all pastels), but sometimes you have to go with the flow!

To start my card I stamped our new Bloomin' Huge on 3 different shades of pink paper using black dye ink. I randomly trimmed one into a 2" square, one into a 1 1/2" square and one into a 1" square. After coloring all the flowers with the same pink and purple markers, I layered all with white paper cut 1/8" larger, then layered them onto purple cardstock. I layered that with a slightly larger white card, and attached it all on a bright pink folded card.

I used a 1/4" strip of extra bright pink paper (decorated with pearl glitter glue) and attached it to the right side of my card. I stamped my vertical get well using versamark ink and embossed it using white embossing powder and after layering it with white paper I adhered it on top of the pink strip of paper. A little glitter glue and I was good to go!

Thanks for stopping by, read on for my new idea and another addition of ~

Your Tip by Kerry H. - I use a 15 X 27 glass mat I had cut on my table top. It's easy to clean everything off of it including glitter! But the best part is when I want to reverse an image, I simply stamp it on the glass then press my card front onto the glass picking up the ink and the image is reversed!! I never had any luck with the reverse image stamps and this is so much easier.

My Trick - Did you know cutting on a glass cutting board will keep your blade sharper longer?? I use a piece of glass from an old picture frame. I just covered the edges in duct tape!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pass It On
Now onto my new idea - It seems to me that there's a million questions that need to be asked and answered concerning stamping and I'm thinking here is a good place for some of that to happen.
Here's the deal - I'm going to throw out a topic and if you have an answer or comment you think might help, please send me an email with your response. I'll publish the top answers/comments the following week - sending the answer-ers a bit of blog candy for their trouble of course!
If on the other hand you have a topic you'd like some input on, send me that too. You'll get the blog candy for your trouble!! We'll all be a little bit smarter in a matter of weeks!!!
Our first topic is.........................
Stampers Block, Loss of Creativity, No More Mojo - whatever you call it, it can strike anyone, at any time. What's your solution, suggestion or comment?????
Please send all topics/suggestions/comments and all Tips and Tricks to submitdrs@yahoo.com Please be so kind as to include your snail mail address for faster receipt of your blog candy!!
Easy Gift Ensemble!
>> Thursday, August 13, 2009
By Debbie Seyer
Hello everyone! Hope you are having a great week so far! Its time for Back-To-School shopping and a gift for the teacher could help the year get off to a great start! Do you ever want to give a gift of cards but are afraid to take the time and effort? I love to give hand-made items as gifts. The cards for this gift set are pretty simple but when you add in the great Card Organizer box, you have a wonderful gift set.
100_1363
Using 4 sentiments and one image, all from DRS Designs, I made this gift set. The card organizer is made from 2 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11" So Saffron Cardstock. The top detail is made with 2 strips of 12 x 12 Core'dinations cardstock. Using the new Impressabilities - Pebbles, I embossed the detail and then sanded to reveal the core of the cardstock. I stamped the image, Bloomin' Huge Flower (M1023) with Rich Cocoa Memento ink and colored it in with Copic Markers. I carefully cut them out and used the Scalloped Paisley Nestabilities for my leaves. Here is a close-up of my Card Organizer Box.
100_1357
Each of the cards uses a different sentiment. All of these small sentiments fit perfectly into the Double Ended Tag die template from Spellbinders. I used Just A Note (B244), Happy Birthday (B250), Get Well Soon (B254) and Thank You! . Each card has a white cardstock panel that was dry embossed using the Pebbles Impressabilities. I also used the Labels 4 under my tags for a special touch.
100_1361
I think these DRS Designs images make a quick and simple card look very elegant. This would make a great gift for the new Teacher, don't you think? Hope you are having a great week!
Thanks for stopping by!
