Sit back and relax

Welcome!

I don't know about you but I would love to be able to kick back like this bunny. In honor of his laid back attitude I kept my card relatively quick and simple.

The only thing that took a little extra time was cutting a circle around the bunny's head and then removing the paper between the bunny and the circle. I sponged the outside of the circle around the bunny using Vivid turquoise ink and then used the same ink inside, just applying slightly more ink for a darker blue.

The other fun thing about this card is how it becomes a shelf sitter when you open it and fold it right above the grass line!

Whats THAT in This Bunny's Tummy???

by: Dawn Knight

When I saw this bunny... to me he was
screaming SHAKER CARD!!! I colored him in
with copic markers and then I cut out the belly part. Next, I attached a small piece of acetate. Then I took the jelly bean background stamp and I stamped them with stazon on polyshrink plastic and colored them with copics. I cut them out and then I shrank them.(I LOVE watching them shrink!!!) I put them in his tummy and here is my card with jelly beans in the bunny's tummy. I knew that I just had to use the sentiment below to put on the inside of the card.! Thanks for stopping in and i hope you like this card!!!

Easter...The Promise of God's Love

>> Friday, February 26, 2010

I've had my Copic markers for about 2 months now and I swear I've used them everyday thus far.  I decided to change things up a bit yesterday when I sat down to create this card. I colored this new image by DRS Designs with my Prismacolor Pencils and blended the colors with Gamsol.  Such a basic technique that takes a bit longer to use than coloring with markers, but it was so much more relaxing!

Creating this card and using the pencils made me realize how much I've started rushing the coloring process when I use my Copic markers. Since the markers are alcohol based, you have to work quickly to blend colors while the ink is still wet.  It was nice not to have to worry about this while coloring this image.  I think the pencils give a softer feel thats more appropriate for this image as well.

I've paired this new image, Easter Oval with Lily and Crosses with an older sentiment, Easter Is God's Love, also from DRS Designs.  I think these stamps are a perfect match, don't you?  The sentiment says what this image implies and that is what Easter is all about after all!

Jennifer

Irish Luck!

>> Thursday, February 25, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Do you feel lucky? If you had this pot of gold and all these shamrocks, I bet you would!

I stamped the main image (Everything Irish) twice and colored it using a combination of markers overlaid with Prismacolor pencils. I colored the hat only on the second one and popped it up slightly on top of the original. The triple teardrop giga circle was stamped around the base image and then it was cut out using a Spellbinders circle Nestie. I took the leftover frame and sponged it w/ yellow and yellow/orange inks then put the image circle back inside after elevating it slightly.

The emerald green layer was stamped with the shamrock background and emerald green ink. I stamped a few extra shamrocks, cut them out and attached them on the yellow frame. The greeting was cut out using a Nestie tag and color was added to the greeting and edges with markers.

Thanks so much for stopping by! May the luck of the Irish be with you!

Supplies:
stamps: Triple Teardrop giga circle, Everything Irish, Luck of the Irish, Shamrock Background
paper: Neena white, emerald green, summer sun
ink: Ancient Page coal, emerald, lemon peel, sunburst
accessories: markers, Prismacolor pencils, Spellbinders lg circle and tag sets, chipboard (for elevation)

Jelly Bunny Bean!

>> Tuesday, February 23, 2010

by Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

Today I have the cutest bunny to show you! He is a new release from DRS and he makes me smile everytime I see him!!

See what I mean? He is just too cute! You can see the Jelly Bunny Bean on the brand new DRS Designs website! Wow, is it cool!

Now for my card, I stamped the Jelly Bean Jumble background using Barely Banana ink onto Barely Banana cardstock. I know its hard to see in my picture but trust me, it's there! Then I stamped the Jelly Bunny Bean using Rich Cocoa Memento ink onto white cardstock and colored him in using Copic markers. I added some stickles onto the little eggs for some extra glitter! I stamped the sentiment using the Rich Cocoa ink onto white cardstock and then positioned the Ribbon Tag die. That way, I have my sentiment just where I want it! The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby and the button is from my button stash! Thanks for checking out my post today!

Bucky the Bunny

It's feels so great to use springy images again!  Bucky the Bunny is perfect for a one stamp card because the sentiment is built right into the balloon.  I added added interest to the bottom of the card with Vicki's Versatile background stamp - it's one of my favorites!  Thanks for looking.

need a ton of layers to have a great card! As you can see, I am still on my clean and simple kick! With limited stamping time lately, I need everything to be clean and simple!!! All you really need for a great card is a great focal image, a great sentiment and maybe an embellishment or two.

DRS just released a bunch of cool new images yesterday...check them out HERE if you haven't already. Here is a CAS card with no layers (!) using a new image and an older (but still available) sentiment...

I stamped the sentiment directly on the card front. The shamrock is a Sizzix die cut. Although DRS has a ton of ribbon slide images, I chose to use a punch that I've had lying around for a while as it mimiced the buckle on the image to a "T"!!

Be sure to head on over and not only check out the newly released images, but also check out the new look of the DRS Designs website!!! Very cool!!

Thanks for checking in...

Looking Forward To Spring!

Move over Winter, here comes Spring!
That's the feel I get from the new images DRS Designs will be releasing tomorrow. This release is all about St. Patrick's Day and Easter and I know you will enjoy them.  I'm having a hard time deciding which is my favorite.

Today I'm showing you one of my favorite cards I've created for this release so far.  I've used Bucky the Bunny (K235) and the Jelly Bean Jumble Background (D241).  I also used the Easy Grass Background stamp (E059) at the bunny's feet to help complete the scene.

Bucky and the Jelly Beans were colored with Copic Markers.  I used the masking technique to shade the sky and grass areas.  Of course Bucky would not be complete without his cotton tail--I used white Fun Flock on it to give it that authentic fluffy feel.

Make sure to check out the new stamps as soon as they become available by clicking HERE.  I promise you won't be disappointed!

Oh, and don't forget there's a contest going on where you could win some of these new stamps for free.  Take a look at THIS POST to read all about it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Smiles,
Jennifer

Ladybug Birthday

>> Thursday, February 18, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

I can't help but smile when I see ladybugs.
They seem like such happy little creatures. A couple of times a year, we have tons of ladybugs in the yard. A few always manage to get in, but I try to catch them and take them back outside. Our ladybugs usually aren't this bright red, they're more of a red-orange color, but for this card I made them bright red.

There must be 50 ladybugs on this card. It seemed more like a hundred when I was coloring them all. I started by masking off a diagonal line and stamping the ladybug background (H799) across the lower section and sponging some lt blue ink on the top section. They're all colored w/ markers and a blender. I masked all the ladybugs (yes, big groan!) and sponged on some lt green ink. The ladybug flower (G953) and greeting (G576) were stamped on another piece of white c/s, colored and the flower was cut out. The greeting was cut with a Spellbinders petite oval and backed w/ a petite scallop oval.

On the lower edge of the 5.5 x 4.25 (A2) white card, I stamped the ladybug border (P811), colored it then trimmed around the bottom edge. I also stamped some of the border on a scrap, colored a few bugs and leaves, cut them out and attached them along the diagonal line of the card front.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Adventures of Late Night Stamping

>> Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Posted by Jenny Charboneau/designsbyboo.blogspot.com

Have you ever made a card in the middle of the night because it was better than lying in bed not being able to sleep? This is what I did a couple of nights ago. And one mistake after another happened! This card was supposed to look like this: Bucky the Bunny (sneak peek) with one balloon (colored with Copic markers) and a stamped ground with Vicki's Versatile background, followed by sponging in the same color of caramel, a colored cotton tail colored with a white gel pen, a sponged sky with the scene mounted on pumpkin cs and mounted on white cs with bunny paw prints, and then finally mounted on a pumpkin card base. That's it. Maybe some ribbon.

So, this is how the story goes. LOL!

1. I was too lazy to mask Bucky and his balloon, so I sponged some sky on his perfectly colored, shaded balloon. I tried to cover it up with darkening the coloring. Bad mistake. It was too late to mask anything to stamp another balloon, so I stamped the back of dsp for the balloon.
2. Since I used the lighter shade of dsp, I had to make to blend in more so it wasn't obvious why I had used the dsp balloon. You guessed it. I added just a tad, not too much, of the same dsp on the base of the card.
3. I somehow ended up with a smudge on Buck, so I added a bow.
4. The bow was in an odd spot. I could have wrapped the ribbon all around, but I didn't want to cover more of Bucky up, especially with his cute cotton tail! So, I added some brads in hopes of making it look "more even".
5. At this point, I saw one more mistake that I did't think would ruin the card in my eyes. And I was finally too tired to come up with a reasonable cover-up. LOL!

So, has this ever happened to you.... daytime or nighttime? Do you try and fix it with cover-ups or start over?

Please tell me I'm not the only one making mistakes and covering them up :)

Good Morning Stampers!!!

Last week Louise (that's Mom to Samantha and I) and I went down to not so sunny Georgia for a stamp convention. We not only had a wonderful time meeting and re-meeting (?) all the area stampers who managed to get to the show even though it was Super Bowl Sunday and the weather didn't cooperate, we also got the chance to meet our own fabulous design team member Julie. What an impressive lady!

One of the things Julie and I got talking about is unmounted stamps and the way we store them. She mentioned her system to me and I want to pass it on to you as I think this is the best one I've heard of yet (at least for the anal retentive like myself :) She uses the easy mount like I do, only instead of using the regular storage panels or CD cases, she's bought old fashioned photo albums that have the "magnetic" pages. You know where you lift up the plastic covering to put your photos under it. This way she can put a stamped copy of each stamp behind the plastic and the rubber on top of it. She knows where every stamp goes even when it's not in there - How cool is that???? Thanks Julie!!

I also have a challenge for you today. We've just recently come out with our 12th catalog - Wow! One of the things we always look for when we design our new catalog is how many of our original designs are still left from catalog number 1. Sadly, we're down to 4 ( that's not bad for 17-18 years) and 2 new ones that are so close to the old ones you probably can't tell the difference. So my challenge to you is - which ones are they????

Of all 6, for as many as you can guess correctly I'll send you that many of our
St. Patrick's/Easter new release stamps free. Actually, if you can guess all 6 I'll send you all the new release stamps! I haven't been as happy with any other new release as I am these.

So for now until Easter 2010, please email your guesses ( design number and description) to: submitdrs@yahoo.com or add your guesses to your comments. I only ask that you do not list every number from 1 to 1,000,000 ;)
Limit each email/comment to 6 guesses per day. Good Luck!

BTY - our website has been updated as well, so you don't need our new catalog to play!!

Have Fun!!!

Here's a card created by Debbie Seyer using an upcoming release image called Easter Oval with Lily & Crosses!

Supplies Used:

  • Stamps - Easter Oval with Lily & Crosses (Sneek Peak), Christ has Died/Risen (F432)
  • Ink - Tuxedo Black Memento Ink pad

I live in North Carolina... and apparently... it's the new Alaska! We have had snow 2 times this year... so I got out the DRS Designs snow lady stamp and started to create! I loved the idea of a non-traditional shaped card! I embossed the sentiment on the front in white and added the gemstone snowflakes. to make it open, I used this little brad as a hinge so the card would slide open as you can see in the next photo.
On the inside, I used this AWESOME Snow lady stamp and colored her with copic markers. I used some die cut shapes and added kissy lips to her with a red glitter pen. so easy and yet I just don't think to make an odd shaped card once in a while! Thanks for popping in and have a great day! Stay warm!

Stair Steppin' For Valentine's Day!

>> Friday, February 12, 2010

Today I've created my first Stair Step Fold card to share with you!

I've put together this extra special card for Valentine's Day using several images from DRS Designs.   I stamped the card base with the Interlocking Hearts Background (H808) using Versamark Ink. After laying in the folds and creasing them, I stamped the Script Happy Valentine's Day sentiment (F357) on a cut-out heart and attached it to the front layer.  The middle layer was decorated with the Love Is Patient sentiment (H201) and some decorative pearls.  I decorated the back layer with the very cute Sweet Offering Cutie Pie Kid (G623) and some flowered rhinestones.

Here are some close-ups of each decorative layer.

Thanks for stopping by today!
Have a wonderful weekend & Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Love is patient...

>> Thursday, February 11, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Y'all have seen some wonderful cards using this Love is patient... (H201) verse this week. This is my Valentine version using this great verse. While I was searching for papers, I came across a left over piece of inked/embossed background from Splitcoast challenge TLC160. It was made by rolling a brayer inked with a Kaleidacolor Berry Breeze ink pad over the inside of a Cuttlebug Floral Fantasy embossing folder, inserting white card stock and embossing.

On a separate piece of white c/s, I stamped the verse using the same ink. I used a Spellbinders Labels 4 to cut out the center to frame the verse and used a marker around the edge. It's attached to a larger purple layer with a punched lower edge.

I used a Cuttlebug die to die cut the double heart and love out of card stock which I first ran through a Xryon to apply adhesive. I left the backing on it to die cut it, then I removed the backing and applied glitter.

I hope you enjoyed my Valentine version of this wonderful verse. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Pretty in Pink

Today's sketch challenge on Splitcoast was perfect for Three Happy Hearts! I decided to go light in the pink. I can't remember the last time I used pink pirouette. For a background, I repeatedly stamped the medium filigree snowflake in pretty in pink on pink pirouette. The top layer has faux stitching and a spiral clip with lots of ribbon and is popped up on dimensionals.

Stamps: Three Happy Hearts (H189), valentime greeting (A1025), medium Filigree Snowflake (H1123)
Paper: pretty in ink, pink pirouette, white
Ink: black, basic gray, pretty in pink, regal rose marker, Copic markers (RV21 & RV13)
Accessories: spiral clip, ribbons, CM heart maker, paper piercer & template (SU mat stack), dimensionals
Technique: faux stitching

Tuesday Morning Sketch!

>> Tuesday, February 9, 2010

by Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

This week DRS Designs is sponsoring Tuesday Morning Sketches! You can see the sketch and the great prize HERE. Be sure to check out all the great samples by the Tuesday Morning Sketches design team using DRS images!!

Using a sketch is one of my favorite ways to get my creativity going! I had alot of fun with this sketch. So much, in fact, that I made 2 cards for today!

My first card sticks to the sketch really close.

I used the new release XL Design Ribbon Slide (G141). I stamped the image and embossed it using some clear embossing powder. After I heat set the powder, I cut out the square and the ribbon slide portion. I threaded my ribbon thru the middle and tied a bow. I stamped/embossed the With Sympathy (F687) sentiment and added some sponging around the outside. Sympathy cards are hard for me to make. I am used to using bright cheerful colors and lots of embellishments on my cards but a sympathy card needs alot less to get the point across.

For my second card, I changed up the sketch just alittle bit. I used a sentiment as the main focal point and embellishments along the bottom. Here I chose a bright, cheerful color of orange!!

The sentiment is a new release called Song In My Heart (G202). I stamped the sentiment first and then cut/embossed using Labels 11 Nestabilities(tm). I also cut/embossed some Classic Heart Nestabilities(tm) and put those along the bottom, held in place by some heart shaped pearl brads.

I love this sketch and hope you will give it a try! Be sure to check out all the great samples from the Tuesday Morning Sketches design team! If you play along you could win a great prize from DRS Designs! Have a great Tuesday!

Images by DRS Designs...

This snow tree with fence was part of the most recent release of images by DRS. I simply stamped the image in chocolate and then colored the posts and tree with a water based marker. Some heart punches and dazzling diamonds finished off the focal image. The chocolate panel was embossed with the textile cuttlebug folder. I used a circle punch to punch the side of the focal image and that is where I placed my ribbon. Jewels and pearls finished the overall look.

Simple Cards... ME???

>> Saturday, February 6, 2010

By:Dawn Knight
If ya know me... you know that simple cards are so not me.My cards are usually kind of over the top...a party in the envelope before the party even starts! SO, I thought that I would challenge myself...to make clean and simple cards. To me that means a few embellishments and not alot of clutter on the card... so here are my takes on that idea! For the first card i used my nesties and die cut the 2 shapes. This wonderful sentiment fir in there perfectly and the I added the butterflies. I scored the edges with my scor pal and here it is...
For this next card... I did the same thing... only different. I still die cut 2 shapes and I used another wonderful sentiment and the scor pal. Only this time I criss crossed the background. Where they intersected, I added a little pink glitter dot. I used these Calla Lillie's and then... the pink bow.
So that is my take on clean and simple. I hope that you enjoyed these cards and try to do this yourself. I really enjoyed the challenge. Thanks for stopping by!

Are You Ready For The Big Game?

>> Friday, February 5, 2010

Leonard is and so am I!
We're having a party and you're all invited!

I created these invitations for the Super Bowl party using Leonard at the Game (F717) and the You're Invited (D087) stamp, both from DRS Designs.  Of course I can't play favorites, so I created 2 sets of cards in each of the playing teams colors.

On both cards, I colored Leonard at the game with Copic markers. I matted the image, and then adhered it to the card front with foam tape for some added dimension.   Since I made quite a few of these cards, I tried to keep them fairly simple.  A bit of texture was added using the Cuttlebug and some brads.

So, are you an Indianapolis fan or a New Orleans fan?
Have a great weekend and enjoy the game!

Smiles,
Jennifer

Hugs & Kisses

>> Thursday, February 4, 2010

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy February! Only 10 days left until the Sweetest Day! What could be sweeter than hugs & kisses for your sweetie? Well, the pink might be a little girlie, but I think the black makes up for it.

The OXXO (G188) was stamped on white and I added a little color and shading with markers and a blender pen. After cutting it out, I attached it to some thin chipboard for more stability and a little lift. The sentiment was die cut and attached to a die cut of the same thin chipboard.

The Heart Drops (K344) were stamped across the bottom of the pink layer and I stamped just the heart string so I could extend it all the way to the top. A few punched hearts were added to the bottom and I used a tiny heart embossing folder and double heart punch on the right corner of the black layer.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Golfing in January.... in Michigan!!!

>> Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Winter has been milder than usual here. I'm not a fan of winter so I don't mind.... except for there hasn't been any snow days! The snow has been coming down little bits at a time. I saw the first snowman of the season in our neighborhood the other day. It was so tiny but very cute!

This golfing snowman is very cute, too! He is popped up on dimensionals. The arrows were made with a punch. And I also used Swiss Dots CB embossing folder and punched a circle. When I turned it over on the backside, it looks like a golf ball.

What do you think of the greeting? It makes me laugh every time I see it! Along with the greeting and golf ball snowman, I also used DRS's grass background. The colors I used were not quite navy, garden green, and pumpkin pie.

The Bucket Handbag Challenge!

>> Tuesday, February 2, 2010

by Debbie Seyer - A Peek Into My Stamping Room

Yesterday on Splitcoaststampers, the challenge was to make a Bucket Handbag box. It's a really great template and I wanted to do something using one of my favorite DRS Stamps - Large Filigree Snowflake (M1119). Yep, you read that right - Snowflake!! I love the look of this stamp. It's just so elegant and I just knew I could use it as a background on my bag. What do you think?

After printing the template onto the pink cardstock, I cut everything out. Then I stamped the Filigree Snowflake all over the bag using the same colored ink as my cardstock. Then before I cut/embossed the Classic Heart Nestabilities™, I stamped all over a scrap of white cardstock. After the heart was cut/embossed then I stamped the Script Happy Valentine's Day sentiment using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I layered it onto a black Scalloped Heart Nestabilities™. I even cut the handles using Scalloped Heart Nestabilities™ but its hard to see with my big bow :).

This color combo is one of my daughter's favorites, so I think this is for her! Maybe a iTunes gift card for Valentine's? She isn't into sweets (I don't know who she gets that from!) Don't be afraid to use your stamps in different ways! Hope you have a great day!
