Thoughts of Butterflies

Happy Wednesday! I hope you are all having a great week! The weather here in Wisconsin is still mighty chilly (although they are forecasting a heat wave of 40 degrees this weekend). A few weeks ago I started working part-time at the university. Due to a lack of affordable parking on campus, I've been riding the city bus. Yesterday morning as I stood in the dark, sub-zero degree weather at 5:45am waiting for the bus, all I could think about was summer and butterflies. There is just something about butterflies that makes me feel happy (and believe me, I needed every happy thought I could muster up while I was standing there freezing). I know I've posted about my love of the DRS Designs butterfly stamps before but I just can't help but say it again. DRS Designs has a HUGE selection of gorgeous butterfly stamps. I love them all! You can find them all in the "Wild Things" catagory on the website. Here is a card I made using one of my favorite DRS butterfly stamps:

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you all have a great day!

We started our long drive back to WI today but decided to stop here in Tampa for a few nights and THANKFULLY I finally have internet access!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately due some computer issues with my husband's laptop I can't find my photo that I wanted to share. Instead I am just going to wish you all a happy and safe New Year's Eve and a healthy, happy, wonderful 2009!

O Summer, Where Art Thou?

Cold...Snow...Freezing Rain...School Closings...Shoveling...Wind Chills...Subzero temperatures...that about sums up the week we've had here in Wisconsin. To make things even worse they are calling for 12 more inches of snow later this week. YUCK! Winter hit hard and early this year. I am SO not a cold weather person. To help boost my gloomy winter spirit I decided to make a card that at least reminds me of the warm, happy days of summer.
This card uses the newly released "You're Invited" stamp along with some of my other summer favorites! Oh how I wish I was going to a backyard barbecue instead of going out to shovel yet more snow...

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a warm and sunny day!

I thought I would take a little break from Christmas cards and highlight one of my favorite things about DRS Designs...Butterflies. In all of the years I have been a stamper, butterfly stamps have always been my favorite. DRS Designs carry a wide variety of GORGEOUS butterfly stamps. There is just something about butterflies that gives me such a happy feeling. With the weather getting colder and the daylight declining, I am definitely in need of a happy butterfly pick-me-up. I went through my cards and picked out a few of my favorite butterflies...

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Happy Wednesday!

Hope everyone is having a great week! Just a quick post today to share a cute Halloween treat idea. This is very similar to Vicki's nugget box that she showed us on Monday, just on a larger scale. The nugget wraps are just mailing labels that I stamped with the candy corn background from DRS Designs. I stamped them in orange and colored and glittered them. The main image is one of the new Halloween releases from DRS Designs. I colored and embellished it and glued the wrap so that it fit snugly around my box. The box is something I bought at my local scrapbook store. The spiders, bats and pumpkin are die cuts.

Hope you all have a terrific day! Thanks for stopping by!

Can you see the POSSIBILITIES?

>> Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Today I wanted to share a little secret I have about buying stamps...LOOK FOR POSSIBILITIES! When I am looking to buy stamps I ALWAYS look to see if there is something extra that I can do with a stamp. When choosing stamps for today's projects, I looked for those extra POSSIBILITIES...

For this first card I wanted an elegant looking sentiment stamp to coordinate with my pumpkin image. This sentiment stamp had the exact style "Happy Thanksgiving" I wanted, but I didn't need the whole sentiment. I had 2 options to get my desired sentiment, I could ink only the "Happy Thanksgiving" portion of the stamp and stamp it, or I could cut the "Happy Thanksgiving" portion from the rest of the sentiment and use it individually (this option only works when you are using unmounted stamps). For this card I chose the 2nd option - cutting my stamp apart. For me, the benefit of using unmounted stamps is you can cut sentiments apart and use them separately but still fit them back together perfectly if you want to use the entire sentiment. For this sentiment stamp, I cut a straight line under the "& good times". This left me with 2 sentiments that work great individually, but still leaving me with the option of using them together also.

For this 2nd card, I chose the option of just inking one word from the sentiment. I did not cut this stamp apart, I just used a marker to ink one word, huffed on the stamp and stamped.
For the ghost image I stamped the full image on a piece of white cardstock and just cut around the ghost. So many possibilities!

For this 3rd card I also used the inking only a portion of the stamp option once again. When I first saw this star stamp I immediately saw POSSIBILITIES! I thought that the tree decorations on the interior of the star would look fabulous by themselves. I inked only the trees using a marker, huffed on the stamp and stamped it. I ended up with perfect little Christmas trees. Did you see this extra possibility in the star stamp?

Another great option you have with unmounted stamps is you can change the configuration of sentiments. If the sentiment stamp is 3 lines and you wanted a single line you can cut the sentiment and piece it together into a single line. When doing this techinique I highly recommend using a Stamp-a-ma-jig or some other type of positioning system-this will help you get things lined up exactly as you want. For some reason I can't find the photo of my example for this technique, but you can see it HERE at the DRS Designs website. For my card I changed a 4 line sentiment into a 3 line sentiment.

Thats all I have for you today. I hope everyone has a day full of POSSIBILITIES!!!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Nature is the Art of God

Today I thought I would share one of the cards that I made as a finalist for the DRS design team. For this card I used stamps E962 and M385. I sponged the edges of all layers of cardstock with matching ink and used foam dimensionals to pop up the central layer. To finish off the project I added 3 lines of coordinating ribbon.

I hope you are all enjoying your week! Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday! Today I wanted to highlight one of the many wonderful stamp catagories at DRS Desigsns...VERTICAL WORDING STAMPS! Did you know that DRS Designs carries over 20 different vertical sentiment stamps. I'm sure you all own tons of sentiment stamps but how many of those stamps have vertical wording...my guess is, not many. I have found that vertical sentiments are hard to come by. I love doing sketch challenges and I've found a lot of sketch challenges lately where I was wishing for a vertical sentiment. These sentiments work great with tall central images that don't leave room for the traditional horizontal sentiment.
For my card today, I used Sketch Challenge SC175 from SCS (it was a great sketch for showcasing the use of vertical sentiments). On my card, I used the DRS Designs stamp "Vertical 2 line Happy Birthday" to compliment the adorable "Frog Daddy" image. To modify my sentiment to read "Hoppy" instead of "Happy" I inked only the H, P's and Y with a water-based marker and stamped them on my white half circle cardstock. I added the eyelet to stand for the "o".
I stamped my frog image on white cardstock and colored it in with Bic Mark*it permanent markers. After coloring the frog I painted over the green with Green Olive Shimmerz paint to give it the extra bit of shine. I also painted the entire green layer of cardstock with the same Green Olive Shimmerz. The light blue background layer was embossed using the Tiny Bubbles Cuttlebug embossing folder. After embossing I painted the entire piece of cardstock with Angel's Wings Shimmerz and then sponged around the outside with a darker navy ink.
If you haven't already, I definitely recommend taking a little "trip" over to the DRS Designs website to check out the terrific selection of vertical sentiments!
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you all have a wonderful day!
