Warm Cocoa Hugs

>> Wednesday, January 1, 2020

Now that Christmas is over, I have moved to winter cards.

I have some warm cocoa with toasty marshmallows.  I stamped the Cocoa and Marshmallows first and then sponged them with some Distress Ink.  I then stamped it again to layer up some of the marshmallows.
On the back of the easel, I sponged the same red I used on the cocoa.  Then I cut a white circle and stamped it with Triple Trees with Snow.  I added a die cut hugs to finish off the bottom layer.

Hope you are staying warm (or cool if things are hot where you live).  Happy New Year!!!

Creative Christmas Sponging

>> Wednesday, December 18, 2019

I played in the Featured Stamper Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com this weekend and fell in love with THIS card done by one of the members (lovinpaper).  I love how she made a torn paper mask to make her Christmas card.

For this case, I tore a mask out of some junk mail and sponged on some color.  Next, I stamped the Snowy Bird House and then the Triple Tree with Snow image at the bottom.  For my sentiment, I used the top line of the Joy of Christmas Greeting (I used the remainder inside).  Then I colored up everything, added some Tim Holtz Holiday Greenry, and some Snowtex splatter (with the mask still on).

Hope your week is going well and those Christmas "Need to Dos" are getting done!

Many hugz,

Nancy

Busy Card for a Busy Season!

>> Wednesday, December 11, 2019

Hello friends,

Do you ever see something on Pintrest or a website that totally sticks in your head?  THIS fun flower at MacKensie-Childs stuck in mine (it is still there so you may see something like this again lol).

I thought it would be fun to mix patterns and colors on the DRS Designs Giant Poinsettia.  I made a fun red sheet of paper with the Ink/Spray/Smash technique followed by some Frantage, and then I stenciled on a scrap paper.  I stamped some poinsettias, then stamped the Silent Night Sheet Music on one of the flowers. I then fussy cut the flowers and layered them up.  I finished off the flower with some gel medium and gold micro beads.  The left over paper served as the background with a fun little gold bow.  I know it is kind of busy and a lot is going on, but that is how I like my cards!

Hope your Christmas shopping and preparations are going well.  I am about 1/2 done.  A few more stocking-stuffers, a few more presents, and sending off the Christmas cards are still to do.

Nancy

Purple Christmas Hugs

>> Wednesday, December 4, 2019

I saw THIS great card by Kia Gibson-Clapper and loved it.  Then this weekend she was the featured stamper on Splitcoaststampers.com so I decided to case it using the GIANT Poinsettia image at DRS Designs.  I did do the poinsettias in the corner like she did, but I added an extra one, changed my card to Christmas Encouragement instead of birthday, and made my poinsettias purple.

I colored the petals, leaf, and background using watered down Brushos.  I cut the sentiment out of a scrap, added glue, and sprinkled on some purple glitter.  I shimmers much more in real life.

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Snowy Santa and Friend

>> Wednesday, November 27, 2019

I have a super fun card to share today.

I made it for a Splitcoaststamper.com challenge last week.  The challenge was to add as many items off a list that you could (Santa, green, holly, trees, red, multiple colors, silver, gold, presents, texture, etc.).  I got all but 2 - I forgot the holly and the gold.

I started the card with a sponged card based (Pacific Point).  Then I die cut the trees (SU!) and sponged them.  I added Stickles for the ornaments.  Then I colored and fussy cut the Santa and dog from the Santa and Puppy Christmas Scene.  I then water distressed the background, layed up everything, and then splattered on some Snowtex.  I tucked in the Small Merry Christmas greeting to finish it off.

I smiled the whole time I made this card.  I just knew that puppy was going to make the card come out so well.  I was right!

I am still running behind on my Christmas cards, but I am ahead of last year I am doing better.  I hope you are too.

Double Blue Christmas

>> Wednesday, November 20, 2019

I am making Christmas cards as quickly as I can.  This one is easy to do a bunch of at one time.

I started with white paper, sprayed on water, sprinkled Brushos, sprayed with water again.  Let dry.

Then I embossed the sentiment (love this Large Script Merry Christmas greeting), cut out the snowflake, and flecked on a bunch of Snoxtex.  Super easy.

Hope you have most your Christmas cards done.  I have waited late again.  I think it is a tradition with me. LOL.

Many hugz,

Nancy

Happy Moose Christmas

>> Wednesday, November 13, 2019

On today's card, I played with a new set of Tim Holtz dies that I received for my birthday (Merry Moose).  I have loved every card I have seen with this set, and I am so glad my daughter bought it off my Amazon wish list.

I started my card by spraying watercolor paper with water and then sprinkling on some Brushos powder.  Next, I sprayed more water until the powders all blended.  Don't you love how Brushos change and move and turn into something wonderful?

The trees are cut from eight layers of a folded napkin.  I watched a Splitcoaststampers.com video this week on using napkins in your art, and I really wanted to try it.  Once the trees were cut, I water colored them with brown Brushos and let them dry.  I cut the moose from some malted milk paper and water colored all the pieces.  The gold pieces are from a left over facial cream package I have been saving (I love a good up-cycle).  I hand cut the snow bank and added some watered down black on the edge.  For my sentiment, I stamped the Small Merry Christmas Greeting and cut it out like a banner.  After the moose was assembled and added to the scene, I flecked on some Snowtex.

Sounds like a lot of steps but it was really pretty easy.  I made another one for my Pop's birthday card - what hunter doesn't like a card with game on it? LOL.

Hope your week is going well!

Nancy

Frosty Christmas Thoughts

>> Wednesday, November 6, 2019

Hello crafty friends.

It was warm in Central Alabama until this past week.  We were unprepared and had to start digging out sweaters and coats quickly.  To celebrate the quick arrival of cold weather, I did a frosty card this week.

I started this card by stamping the Triple Tree with Snow image in black and green.  After I stamped it, I took a water color brush and wet the ink causing it to smear a bit.  I think it adds to the frosty feel. Next, I stamped the Christmas Especially to You greeting.  For fun, I stamped and fussy cut three Skippy the Penguins to add to the scene. I finished it off with a bit of Stickles on the trees and in the snow bank line.

Hope your week is going well!

A Little More Spooky

>> Wednesday, October 30, 2019

I saw two fun creations this week that inspired me HERE and HERE.  I ordered the Tim Holtz Frightful Things die after seeing that great tag!  Since my hubby and I are visiting famous haunted places in Alabama, I knew I could use the ghosts again.

I started the card by sponging the bg panel with red distress ink and then going around the edges with Vintage Photo ink.  On the next panel, one of my Grandchildren had sponged around a haunted doily and made a spider web pattern using the Vintage photo ink so I embossed it and sponged the ink around the edges too.  Next, I embossed the DRS Designs Silhouette Haunted House image and then sponged different colors around it.  I sponged the IO fence die with Black Soot Distress Ink - I looks kind of like metal and added the ghosts.  My Grandson loves this card.  He thinks it is Spooky Cool.

Now its time for me to start Thanksgiving and Christmas cards - I always think it is sad when I do my last Halloween card because I love them.

Hugz and hope you Halloween is fun!

Spooky Window

>> Wednesday, October 23, 2019

I am still making Halloween cards - I so love a spooky card!

I sponge the base, the main panel, and the outside scene with various inks and did the edges in Black Soot Distress Inks.  I stamped the Accent Bats and the Magic Potion Shelf in Versafine Black Onyx,
I embossed the brown cardstock with the Tim Holtz Tree Ring embossing folder before cutting it out with an MFT Window die.   The Boo was cut out with my Sister's Cricut.

Fun and quick card!

Poe Moon

>> Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Hello fellow crafters.

Sometimes when I get an idea, it is hard to get out of my head.  That happened to me with last week's card. More ideas kept popping into my head so I had to make another spooky moon card.  I do love Halloween and Fall moons!

I am calling this my Poe Moon card, and used  Poe's The Raven poem as my inspiration.  The background for this one started out the same as last week's card.  Then I stamped on The Raven, and the then some Script Font Background.  It needed something else so I stenciled on some hearts (The Raven is a spooky, deep love story after all) and added a Boo banner using a Tim Holtz spooky alphabet die.
I love how it came out.  I may make more!

Hope you are having a great week - we had rain and cooler temperatures so we are excited here in Central Alabama.

Nancy

Spookyness!!!

>> Wednesday, October 9, 2019

I love, love, love October!  I love the promise of cooler weather (we grab on that kind of promise in the deep South - lol), the fun of Halloween with its spooky stories and fun movies, and the food - candy apples, pumpkin pie lattes, and candy, candy, candy.

Today, I have a spooky scrapbook page and a card.

For my scrapbook page of our visit to the "Mountain Tom Clark" historical marker, I used some fall colors and stamped the Spooky Tree Limb, the Accent Bats, and the Iron Fence and Gate.  I cut out one branch of the spooky tree limb so I could hang the picture of "Mountain Tom."  This page was inspired by THIS card done by Kari B. on Splitcoaststampers.com- she was this week's featured stamper.

Next, I did a sponged Halloween scene using the colors from this week's color challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.  I used a circle mask and sponged around it.  Then I splashed it with water and dried it before I stamped on the Batty Happy Halloween, the Silhouette Majestic Pines, and the edge of the Silhouette Haunted House trees on the very bottom (you can barely see them).
I was inspired to do this card, by a card by Yvette Jensen on Pinterest.  I changed it up alot but her background did inspire me (I can't find the link on the pin).

Hope the rest of your week is super fun and you get a chance to create.

Nancy

Dancing Ghost

>> Wednesday, October 2, 2019

Hello, friends.

This past weekend we had a family reunion in Elba, Alabama.  I googled some interesting places around there so we could add to our collection of fun Alabama discoveries.  I found the story of the Dancing Ghost of Grancer Harrison so off we went to visit this famous ghost.  He is one of the 13 famous Alabama Ghosts written up by Kathryn Windham-Tucker.  You can hear a bit about him along with a great song too if you click HERE.  If you like folksy tales, HERE is Dr. Poppy Moon's story telling.

Since the ghost is supposedly around a grave in an old cemetery, I decided to add the really fun DRS Designs Silhouette Grave Yard on the bottom and then sponged on some inks to color it up.  When we were at the grave, there were some spooky trees around and some crows.  I decided to add a few Spooky Tree Limb to the page as well.

Hope your week is going well - thanks for visiting!

Haunted Ice Cream Shop

>> Wednesday, September 25, 2019

Hello crafty friends!

This weekend my hubby and I went on a quick trip to Northern Alabama.  We were visiting historical markers and other fun sites.  I love a good scary story so we purposely visited some local haunted places.  We were told to eat at Trowbridges Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop because they reportedly have a ghost.  We didn't see a ghost, but they had some really good food at some really good prices (under $4 for a chicken salad sandwich and it tasted like my Grandmothers - yum, yum).

I chronicled our visit on an 8.5 by 11 page that I dipped in yellow, orange, and black ink (black for the ghost, and orange and yellow for the orange pineapple ice cream they are famous for).  I added a DRS Designs Grim Reaper to signify the spooky part of the restaurant.

Here is Grim and the menu up close.  I added some Stickles to his sickle (boy does that sound weird - lol).
Thanks for visiting!

Spooky Twilight Walk

>> Wednesday, September 18, 2019

Hello crafty friends!

I have been having so much fun making backgrounds the last few weeks.  Today's background was made with inspiration from the Splitcoaststampers.com Technique Lovers Challenge.  It was made by dipping stencils in inky water and stamping them on the paper.  I used a circle stencil, a diamond stencil, and a chicken wire stencil.  My ink was a little too wet, but I love how it came out.

After it was dry, I stamped the Trick or Treaters Last Stop image.  I stamped it several times with my MISTI and then coated the moon with Stickles.  I stamped the Fall Leaf with Acorn and sponged on Vintage Photo ink.  Next I coated in brown and orange water colors.  To add back definition to the lines, I added some Stickles.

I don't know if I would be scared or thrilled to see a sky like this on Halloween.  Inside I used the Poison Potions Halloween Greeting on another Stenciled background.

Hope you are having a great week.

Hugz,

Nancy

Answered Prayers and Monsters

>> Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Hello crafty friends.

I started another scrapbook.  This one is a journaling scrapbook.  I am using pictures of my family and friends, but I am focusing on the journaling rather than the pictures.  It is all done with mixed media which I love.

This first page was dipped in an inky mix of Fall colors, then stenciled and doodled.  Then I covered up all my hard work with a giant journaling panel and the pictures - you can still see a bit of it peeking through.  I sponge the journaling panel and then stamped the Tree Slice Woodgrain image in Vintage Photo Distress ink.  For fun, I added some of the flowers from the Polka Dot Flower Trio.  My page focuses on some recent answered prayers that I am very grateful for in my life.

This next page focuses on the Monsters out there in the world.  I used a stencil to apply the inky water this time.  It gave more pattern to the ink.  I did an ink/spray/smash mixture, but I dipped a stencil in the ink and then applied it to the paper.  The pictures are from a recent trip to Great Wolf Lodge where my daughter and her son got in a photo booth that makes it look like dinosaurs are chasing you.  I added one of the great Zombies at DRS:  Zombie Guy.
Thanks for visiting!

Nancy

A Wedding and Some Pumpkin Spice

>> Wednesday, September 4, 2019

Hello crafty friends.

I have a fun scrapbook page to share - it is my last one in the birthday scrapbook I made for my daughter.  This one captures her wedding and includes pictures of her Dad and Grandmother who have both passed on to Heaven.  I used the You are My Sunshine Greeting.  The background was made by scraping white acrylic paint across the kraft paper - looks kind of like icing.

I bought my first pumpkin spiced latte creamer this week - I got one for work and one for home.  I am so excited when it comes out every year and sad to see it go!  In honor of its arrival, I did a pumpkin spice card using the Pumpkin Spice Everything Nice Greeting,  the Paper Coffee Cup image, and the Fall Leaf with Acorn image.  I used the same paint scraping technique as on my scrapbook page.  The circles are courtesy of my Grandson Lewis.  I stepped away for a minute and he added them - lol!

More Crystal Memories

>> Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Hello friends,

I have a few more scrapbook pages for my daughter's birthday scrapbook using DRS Design images and greetings.

I stenciled on the background of this first page with green and red ink and the flecked some ink mixed with bronze perfect pearls. Then I stamped some Holly Jingle Bells and the Happy Holly Days Greeting.  I sponged and fussy cute the holly off the Jingle Bells and then colored them with ink mixed with Perfect Pearls.
I sponged the background of this page with SU! Summer Sun and then stenciled on some animal print to match her cover-up with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.  I stamped the Barn Door image, sponged it, and fussy cut it.  I then stamped the Walk on the Wild Side Greeting. A few gems and it was done.

Some fun and easy pages.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hugz,

Nancy

Fall Beauty

>> Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Hello DRS Design Fans.

I have another scrapbook page to share.  I am still working on the scrapbook I am giving to my oldest daughter for her 29th birthday card.  It is full of memories and my favorite pictures of her - that is the beauty of doing a scrapbook of your kids - you can pick the pictures. LOL.

I did this page for two Splitcoaststampers.com challenges.  One was to include text on your creation so I used the Script Font background stamp on my ink, spray, smash panel (don't you love the colors?).  The other challenge was a scrapbook challenge requiring 3 pictures, three groups of three embellishments, three lines of title, and three dsps.  I made all my dsps using the ink spray technique.  I used one for the leaves, one for the backing on the pictures, and one as my main panel which I stamped.  For my main embellishment, I used the Fall Leaf with Acorn and for my title I used the Love You to the Moon Greeting

I dusted on some Perfect Pearls in a few spots and this thing glimmers in real life  - especially that giant topaz button.  This was such a fun page to make.  Hope you are having a crafty week.

Hugz,

Nancy

So Ready for Fall

>> Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Hello friends.  I am so ready for Fall!  The heat index here in Alabama has been well over a hundred this week and the humidity is running in the 90% range.

Since I can't have Fall weather, I have a Fall card.  I apologize for the picture but I had to take in the dark - lol. It is  fast, CAS card too.

I swiped some inks on some aluminum foil and misted them with water.  I dipped my paper in the ink and hit with the heat gun.  I think stamped the Long Tall Wheat stalks (several times) and the  Goodbye Summer Hello Fall Greeting.  Next I stamped an Open Leaf on the leftover paper and added a bit of glitter.  I have more leaves inside.

I used this week's Cupcake Inspiration colors for my inspiration on the card - the colors on my leaf are a bit darker but I wanted to get that deep Fall red in it.  The challenge is to add glitter so now you know why my leaf is glittery (or we can just say it is some frost or the sun.... DRS Designs is sponsoring the Cupcake challenge this week (#476) so be sure to check it out (you can win a DRS Designs Gift Card).

Hope you are staying cool (or warm if you are somewhere cold).

Many hugz!

Nancy
