Summer Blues

>> Wednesday, June 27, 2018

Hello friends.  My cards today focus on some Summer blues:  ocean blues and patriotic blues.

This first card is all about underwater fish fun.  The little fish are sure having some fun splashing around.  The background was done by taking aluminum foil, swiping on some ink and then splashing on some water.  I dipped my paper in a few times to get good coverage.  After it was dry, I sponged on some more ink with a chicken wire stencil and distressed the edges. The Big Mouth Bass were colored by sponging, fussy cut, distressed and then covered in Stickles.   I used my MISTI and some Versafine ink to get the Splish Splash Greeting to show up really well.

On the next card, I covered a sheet of paper with some thick water color wash - first in blue for the corners and then I did red stripes.  I didn't worry about how it looked.  After it dried, I stippled on some "stars" using a stipple brush and some white acrylic paint.

I wanted a wood look so I used the Wood Grain Background image.  The ink was too dark so I softened it with some Picket Fence Distress Ink. Next I vintaged it all up by sponging on a heavy coat of Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  I finished it off with the Let Freedom Ring Greeting.  I used the MISTI and stamped it severl times to get a good dark application.
Now I need to go make a few more 4th of July cards since it is sneaking up on me!

Hugz,

Nancy

I love everything about this post - from the title (summer blues is inspired :), to your incredible backgrounds and the finished cards! I'm a bit more partial to the patriotic card and I love how you put the wood grain on top of the "flag" - awesome!
