Stained Glass Pine Trees

>> Wednesday, March 4, 2015

Welcome!

Several weeks ago I had an idea for a card that kept getting pushed aside in my head because it's not holiday themed....and because I knew I wanted to take a little extra time and do a tutorial on it.  Well, I'm happy to say it finally all came together!

I started by stamping our Oval Stained Glass stamp top center of my 4" x 5 1/4" white card using black pigment ink

I immediately stamped our Double Pine Trees right on top using the same pigment ink, then embossed it using clear embossing powder.  Hint:  the embossing makes it much easier for me to color in all the small segments of the stained glass, but be warned my alcohol markers kind of
melted(?) the embossed lines and one marker still isn't working correctly :(  so you might want to skip this step if you'll be coloring with an expensive alcohol marker.

Now came the fun part - coloring :)  I started on the trees and then moved onto the sky starting with yellow on the bottom.

As I added my 2nd sky color, a darker yellow color, I did a little blending to the top row of yellow.

My 3rd color was a light orange (which is hard to see in the photo), and then a regular orange (4th color) always blending with the top row of the lighter color below.

I finished off with the top rows in red, my 5th and final color.

Once I had my image colored all I added was the Enjoy Today sentiment in the bottom right corner and then I mounted it on a folded black 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card

Don't forget to stop by tomorrow to see if you're this weeks Challenge winner and to see what fun challenge we have in store for next week!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I love this! I bet it would look really pretty with watercolors on watercolor paper too (save your pens!!)I have to try this! I love that part of the image is outside of the stain glass.
This is just gorgeous!!

Beautiful, Sue! I'm really impressed w/ your gorgeous background. LOL on the melting...I could have warned you alcohol markers & embossing don't play well together. Been there, done that!
