A frog on a log thinking of you

>> Saturday, April 30, 2011

Today is a good day! The flowers are blooming and the birds are singing. The frogs will be out soon!

My card today features DRS Designs frog on a log and our new release vertical sentiment thinking of you. I stamped the image twice and paper pieced the frog on a log. Colored with markers: sahara sand, tan, green galore, gable green, not quite navy, baja breeze, wild wasabi. Used the woven plaid stamp on kraft card base stamped in green galore and not quite navy. Papers: white, not quite navy and craft. Ribbon, primas and glitter yellow brads.

Bugged??

>> Friday, April 29, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
I hope your week has been going well. It happens to the best of us. Sooner or later. we or someone we know, catches a bug. Too bad they aren't as cute as these and we can't just put them in a jar and get on with our day. If someone you know is under the weather, then maybe a card like this will help them feel a tad better.

For my card, I took a top folded 4.25 x 5.50 card, placed it in a large die w/ the top edge of the card just inside the cutting edge and die cut it to get this shape. I took smaller sizes of the same die and cut them to make the sentiment panels. Another die was used for the one under the jar. I kept the dies in place and sponged color on all of them. While I was engineering this card, I had it in my head that the bugs needed to be in a jar. So I drew a jar and stamped the bugs (dragonflies) inside. I made a jar lid out of some silver card stock and put it on top.
For the fold down sentiment, I cut the inside panel much like I did the card. I took a slightly longer c/s piece and folded it about an inch from the edge then made sure it was inside the cutting edge of the die. I cut two more (regular) panels of the same size. On the folded one, I stamped the inside greeting then glued the folded flap between the dragonfly panel and the outside greeting panel (like a c/s sandwich). I attached a little doodad (I know these have a name but it totally escapes me, lol) w/ a brad to hold it closed. A few punched dragonflies were added and I colored their wings w/ a clear glitter gel pen.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: One Line Caught a Bug?, Caught a Bug Greeting, Flower/Dragonfly Postage Frame
paper: white
ink: VersaFine onyx, Kaleidacolor Caribbean Sea
accessories: Spellbinders dies, markers, clear glitter gel pen, dragonfly punches, doodad whatchamacallit (wow, spell check did not light up at that word!) & tiny brad to hold the panel closed

Sending You A Smile...

>> Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Sending you a smile is one of my favorite sentiments by DRS Designs. I chose it as a stand out image on my card this week.

Images by DRS Designs...

The daisy basket is from the latest release of images by DRS. The sentiment is one of my favorites! I simply stamped the image on a piece of cork paper by Magenta and layered it on the colors of the challenge. The chocolate layer is embossed with an embossing folder along with the color strips. I added jewels to the flower centers and kitchen twine and a button finished things off.

Thanks for checking in...

Hi Everyone,

I have a cheerful get well card to show you today using one of the newly released sentiments from DRS Designs.  Bee Well paired perfectly with the darling little Bitsy Bumble Bee stamp, and I loved being able to pull out my Fiskars Honeycomb embossing plate for the background.

The bee was so cute, I had to pop her up and add some Stickles to her wings!

Thanks for visiting us and Bee Well!

Happy Monday!
Hope you all had a great weekend and a wonderful Easter!  It's Jennifer here today with a "Welcome" card for new neighbors!  The one line Welcome stamp (737B) used here is from DRS Designs latest release.  I love this Shoe House (1069L) stamp and it's fun to color too! It's perfect for a card like this!

I colored the Shoe House image with Copic Markers and distressed the edges with Vintage Photo ink.  The decorative horizontal panel was first stamped with the new Polka Dot (688P) Background and then I used a border punch to dress it up.  I distressed the edges of this panel as well before matting it on a dark brown piece of cardstock that was punched with the same border punch. I added gathered ribbon across the center and then tied the end with a small piece of hemp jewelery cord around it to match.  Some dark brown brads and a decorative corner punch made this card front complete.  Finished card size measures A2 size, 5.5" x 4.25."

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a wonderful day!

Spring

>> Saturday, April 23, 2011

Good day everyone!  I am sure that many of us are preparing for Easter Sunday.  I thought this card was a good way to start my Saturday.
I stamped the Four flower BG, the background branch and the polka dot bg from DRS Designs and then used a spritzer tool with the marker to add some more interest.  Also, laid the pad directly on the paper in a few areas.  Next, I stamped the Spring wording square sentiment in black and painted the flowers with lavendar shimmerz paint and old olive leaves.  I stamped the new release, Three Butterflies and painted them with shimmerz paint, cut them out and placed them on the old olive circles on dimensionals.
Colors: orchid opulence, old olive
Accessories:  shimmerz paints, ink pad, spritzer tool lace, ribbon
Paper, orchid opulence, very vanilla

Welcome Scene

>> Friday, April 22, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
The weekend is almost here! Maybe you have guests coming to stay for the Easter weekend. I think this would be the perfect welcome, stuck in a pretty little basket of fruit waiting for your family or friends in the guest room. Wouldn't that look nice?

I've had the idea for this card since I first saw the wonderful new Stonewall & Gate image. I had the other images all picked out but it took me a bit to figure out how the placement would work and what size card it would have to be. This card measures 5x5 and the inside (elevated) panel measures 4x4. I used a SAMJ to position the background trees in order to have them appear to go from the top panel to the card front. The little shoe house is on the top layer and I cut around the top and right side for an out of the box look. I sponged on the clouds and grass and colored everything else w/ markers.
The stonewall fence was stamped separately, colored and cut out. I used a single 3 leaf from the background to make the leaves on the winter trees. Here's an inside view showing how I carried the scene over. The greeting is the first two lines only of a Christmas greeting but I thought it went well with the Welcome from the front.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend and a Happy Easter!

Supplies:
stamps: Stonewall & Gate, Welcome, Shoe House, Winter Trees, Single Fall Tree (inside), Family & Friends Christmas Greeting (inside), Three Leaf Background (one section only for the tree leaves)
paper: white, black
ink: VersaFine onyx, Kaleidacolor Caribbean Sea, Memories Soft baby blue
accessories: markers, SAMJ (stamp-a-ma-jig), self made cloud stencil, Spellbinders petite oval dies

Blooming Basket

>> Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Hi Everyone,

I have lots of great new release "goodness" from DRS Designs used in the making of my card today.  The main stamp is a fantastic Daisy Basket  that can be colored up any which way to match your paper or occasion.  I used the Polka Dot background and the Three Butterflies to make my patterned paper.  I then colored up one butterfly and cut it out for an embellishment in the corner.  The tiny Get Well Soon sentiment fit neatly in the corner.

Here is a close up of the butterfly and polka dot paper.

Visit the DRS Designs store today for all the great new releases.  Hope the flowers are blooming where you live :)

Happy Monday and Welcome to the DRS Blog!
Isn't Spring such an exciting time of year?  I love seeing all of my flower beds begin to bloom and best of all you can't beat the warm, mild temps and all the sunshine!  This spring card sums it all up perfectly!

The Spring Wording Square (669G) was recently released by DRS Designs.  I created my own background by stamping the Single Flower Blossom (1065C) repeatedly.  I added a fun border punch to outline my stamped background and embellished the card front with some Baker's twine that I recently added to my embellishment collection.

All of the coloring and edge distressing was done using Copic Markers.

I hope your Spring is in full bloom and that you take the time to enjoy it!
Thanks for visiting!

Smiles,
Jennifer

I caught it!

>> Sunday, April 17, 2011

Welcome!

Happy Sunday! This was a pretty fast and fun card until I decided that I should take our new Caught a Bug Greeting seriously and lasso my ladybug!

I started by stamping my white cs with our new Polka Dot Background right across the center using black ink. I stamped above and below with our Ladybug Background. After coloring the bugs and leaves, I sponged on a little black ink around the edges and layered it on black and then attached it to a folded red card. I stamped the saying using red ink and sponged those edges as well.

Next I stamped and colored our Ladybug Stackup and cut out the 2nd largest. Here came the "tricky" part. When I decided to lasso the bug I didn't have any twine small enough, so I grabbed my dental floss and a brown Bic marker and made my rope (it's minty if you get close enough :) and then tied it to the bug. It kept slipping off my layer until I used a square punch and made small notches where I wanted it to stay!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

PS - If you live in the Akron Ohio area come on down to the John Knight Center and join us for the stamp show going on today!!

Did a bug catch you?

>> Saturday, April 16, 2011

Good Saturday everyone!  I hope this day finds you well and there aren't any bugs invading your body!
My card today uses our super cute new sentiment "Caught a bug" (752G) and the ladybug background (799H).  I stamped the ladybugs in noir black and used siren smooch paint to color them in so that they are shimmery.  The leaves were colored with celery shimmerz paint.  I doodled around the black layer with white gel pen.  The three little diddies on the side are red wire swirls (say that three times really fast!).  Added some ribbon too and the sentiment is on dimensionals.
Everybody stay healthy!
I am hanging with Sue today at the Adventures In Stamping Show in Akron, OH...helping set up!

Take care,

Dotty Daisy

>> Friday, April 15, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Are y'all having a great spring week? Except for a couple of nasty thunderstorms, the weather here has been terrific! Mostly sunny, a little windy, temps in the 60's. Just about perfect! With everything in full spring bloom, I thought this dotty daisy looked a little like some of my pink azaleas.

This is actually a fairly simple card. No fancy tools or punches or even any coloring. Don't you just love this new Dot Background stamp? It really dresses up plain pink card stock. I also used for the new daisy image. It's layered on top of a plain huge bloom and a button ribbon slide is on top w/ a narrow ribbon tied through it. I stamped a couple extra of these and split them in half down the right side.
The new Thinking of You was perfect for this layout and anytime you need a sentiment to go vertical. The finished card measures 5.5 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Polka Dot Background, Vertical Thinking of You, Medium Daisy Bloom, Bloomin' Huge Flower, Button Ribbon Slide

paper: black, pink
ink: VersaFine onyx
accessories: narrow black ribbon, black marker (for the edges)

Spring...

>> Wednesday, April 13, 2011

is finally here and here is my card using a new image by DRS Designs...

The focal point, the spring wording square is the new image. You can see all the great new releases HERE. How do you like the background? Pretty cool huh? It's actually this flower border, stamped 3 times as close as I could without overlapping. After stamping, I colored the image and then cut out along the edges. I used a small craft knife to get to the inside areas. The panel is raised on pop dots. I added some ribbon, of course, and a button and jewels to finish things off.

Doesn't it just make you want to head outside and clean up those gardens? I know I would much rather be outside working in mine. That's what the weekends are for though, right?

Hope your Spring is off to a great start.

Welcome Gate

>> Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Hi Everyone,

One of the great unique stamps released this month is this Stonewall and Gate stamp.  It measures a full 6 inches and fits easily across the entire length of my A2 card.  I stamped it on Kraft card stock and then colored it in with my Copics before cutting it out by hand.

I used a light blue paper for the background, and lightly sponged on some white ink for clouds.  The grass was made with the Easy Grass Background stamp and a piece of green card stock.  I spaced out the stamping of the Single Fall Tree so that I could fit the Welcome sentiment in between them.  Since it is spring now, I took a marker and made little green buds by just dabbing it on the ends of the trees.

Love the charming scenes you can create with the large variety of stamps from DRS Designs.  Thanks for visiting and check out all of the new releases today!

You're On My Mind

>> Monday, April 11, 2011

Happy Monday to you all!
Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Are you enjoying all of the new Spring releases that became available last week?  Make sure to check them out if you haven't already.  I know I'm really enjoying my stamping time with them!

I created this "On My Mind" card over the weekend.  The focal image I used here is the Background Branch (721K). I didn't even know it was a "background" until I started writing this post. Regardless, colored with Copic Markers, it's made a lovely focal image for this sympathy or thinking of you card.

If you look closely, you'll also see that I clear embossed the white background with the brand new Polka Dot Background (688P). I then distressed the edges with light green ink which helped make the polka dots more visible. I stamped the Mind and Prayers Greeting (676F) with green ink at the bottom of the card front. Since I think simple is better for these types of cards, I kept the embellishments on the simple side: a few matching brads, a decorative border punch, and some elegant ribbon pulled everything together nicely.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Smiles,
Jennifer

I stamped my background using our new Polka Dot Background and clear versamark ink and embossing it using white embossing powder.

I stamped our new Daisy Basket using black ink and colored in the center of each flower and the basket. A couple of layers, a fancy bow and I was good to go!

Spring Basket

>> Friday, April 8, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Is it spring yet where you live? Seems like overnight, everything started blooming here. So I'm loving these new spring images and the idea of making a basket shaped card with flowers all over it just stuck in my head and that's the direction this took.

As I was deciding how to go about making the basket, I took a folded A2 (4.25 x 5.5) card and saw that the butterfly wreath would make the perfect handle. I stamped a little more than half of the wreath on the top part of the card and used two oval dies to cut it out by inserting the card only part way into the die cut machine. All of the flowers and butterflies were colored w/ markers and cut out.

For the front, I cut strips of card stock, embossed w/ a plaid folder and sponged on the different colors of chalk inks. After weaving the strips, I attached it to the card front and added narrow border w/ mitered corners as a frame.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Spring Wording Square, Butterfly Oval, Three Butterflies, Single Flower Blossom
paper: white
ink: VersaFine onyx, chalk inks in wisteria, ice jade, French blue, pixie dust
accessories: Sizzix plaid embossing folder, oval dies, markers

Here is my first card...images by DRS Designs...

You will find three on my card here today. I love the new polka dot background stamp...I bet it will look great with the swiss dots embossing folder. I'm loving the new medium daisy bloom image...I bet it will look awesome colored in. I took the easy way out with this card by stamping it on colored cardstock and just cutting it out. The new welcome sentiment fit perfectly. Two of the flowers are layered light on dark and the one in the middle is layered dark on light. Yup, I cut out 6 of these babies!!! They are raised on pop dots and all three have seed bead centers.

Thinking of You

>> Tuesday, April 5, 2011

Hi Everyone,

It will be a quick post for me today, as I type this, we are in the midst of a massive thunderstorm, so my fingers are crossed that I don't lose power before I'm done!  lol

DRS Designs has released some great new stamps and I adore this Medium Daisy Bloom.  I used it to create my background, as well as the focal flower.  The long sentiment (Thinking of You) is also new.  While I have this sentiment is my current supplies, this one being vertical, is an awesome addition.  I love things that are unique and surprising :)

I added a bit of yellow highlighting with a Copic marker and some blingy Stickles to the center of the flower and I was done.

Thanks for dropping in and be sure to check out all of the newly released stamps. Then, remember to come back to the blog each day for great inspiration!

Bee Well!

Posted By Jennifer E.

DRS Designs just released a bunch of new stamps this past Saturday! Have you seen them? You can see all of the new releases HERE. I think some of them have come out just in time for all of the Spring colds out there! I'm still trying to get over a sinus infection that I've had for over 3 weeks and many of my family and friends have had Spring colds recently as well.

This "Bee Well" card I created for today uses 2 of DRS Designs new stamps.  One is the "Bee Well" sentiment (761B) itself.  It goes perfectly with the Bitsy Bumble Bee (1020A) or the larger Happy Bee (561C) which I've used here. The other new stamp is the Polka Dot background (688P).  It measures 6 inches from left to right, plenty long enough to cover most stamping surfaces and simulates the swiss dots embossing folder! No need for an extra (heavy!) machine with this stamp! Best of all you can use it with any color ink to match your project.  I'm really gonna have fun with this one--I see lots of polka dots in my future!

Hope your day is great and full of stamping fun! Thanks for stopping by.

Smiles,
Jennifer

Dimensional Pearl Paint

>> Sunday, April 3, 2011

Welcome!

I was at a stamp show in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago and one of the new things I picked up there was called a "Pearl Pen". I can't tell you how much fun I had last night "making" pearls!! The rest of my stamping was a bit frustrating, but the pearls were great!

I decided the perfect stamp for fake pearls is our Rosary Heart and what better time of year than Lent? The first thing I did was to stamp it on white cs using black ink and fill in all the pearls with my new paint- well....the pearls were great but the black ink was too much, so I switched to gold, and then not only stamped it on white, but also some light pink. After 2 hours and many frustrating changes I was relatively happy with this card ~

but it wasn't EXACTLY what I had in mind. I did have fun using our New Polka Dot Background! I still haven't broken down and invested in any kind of embossing/die cutting system and one of my favorite embossed looks is the "swiss dots", so now I can have that embossed look whenever I want, as well as many colorful looks (we'll see what the future holds :) The above card is using clear ink and clear embossing powder.

So, I had my card done, it was late and I had scraps all over the place, and instead of cleaning up and going to bed, I picked up my original black rosary on white cs and using brown, taupe and butterscotch inks, and a razor blade, I distressed and in general went crazy adding color. Then added a strip of cs that I stamped just the Happy Easter part from our almost new Easter Daffodil Oval. It's not traditional Easter, but I kinda liked it!

Still, I had more scraps :) so I hand cut one of my hearts (remember, no die cutting system!) and since you could tell it was hand cut I did a little distressing around the edges and it really hid a lot of bad trimming ( I'll definitely use that trick again!) and layered that on my fake swiss dot "embossed" card and FINALLY got the look I wanted from the beginning. (The polka dots were stamped in clear and embossed using white powder)

I'd like to mention 2 things that I learned last night. 1 - don't add the pearls till the very end, once the dimensional paint was on, it was very hard to fit it in my paper cutter and corner rounder, and 2 - I need more pearl pens in a couple of different colors!

Thanks for stopping by and listening to my ramblings!! I'll be at stamp shows in Allentown PA next weekend (April 9 & 10) and in Akron Ohio the following (April 16 & 17) looking for more colors!

I hope to see you there!!!

As another year flies by...

>> Saturday, April 2, 2011

I have hopes for lots of butterflies sometime soon!  I used our small silhouette butterfly and stamped it three times in burnt umber.  I colored them in with poppy parade and daffodil delight.  An embossing folder was used on the white, base layer. After glueing the layers together, I stamped a fourth and fifth butterfly and paper pieced the fifth one.  The spritzer tool was used to add the speckling. the sentiment is As another year flies by....  I used a button, linen thread and a bit of ribbon as my embellishments.  The sentiment is on a dimensional.
Papers used:  kraft, white, soft sky, baja breeze.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend!
Come on over to DRS Designs website for some wonderful things!

Flowers Squared

>> Friday, April 1, 2011

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
I hope your week has gone well. Today I want to share a card using parts of a couple of images. One of the reasons I love DRS images is that they are so versatile. For both of the images on the card front, I used only a part of the image. Sometimes it's good to take a look at stamps you have and see how they look as a partial image or if they can be used in a different way.

TIP: Die cut or punch a square (or other shape) in a piece of scrap paper. Take the punched opening and move it around on your stamped image to see what looks best. Then lightly pencil the frame so you know where to cut or punch.

The bloomin' huge flower was stamped a few times and I used a small square die to cut the four flower parts out. After coloring w/ markers and a water brush I attached them to slightly larger black die cut squares. I used a stripe embossing folder on the top 2/3 of the white layer and attached the squares.

For the sentiment, I used only the first line. I liked the pretty script font of the greeting and it's really large enough to stand on its own. I used a small corner rounder to mimic some of the word window punches. I die cut a fancy tag out of black and inserted my greeting. Stickles was added to the flower centers. The finished card measures 4.25 x 5.50.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Bloomin' Huge Flower, Sm. Fun Flowers (inside), Thanksgiving Thinking of You
paper: white, black
ink: VesaFine Onyx
