Introducing.... Spencer, the NOT so Spooky Spirit

>> Thursday, September 23, 2010

Welcome!

Happy first day of Autumn too!

Have you met Spencer, the not so Spooky Spirit in our new Halloween stamps yet??? He's more of a friendly ghost, and for whatever reason he makes me smile! I think I'm going to get alot of use out of him this year!

My card today was a very fun yet frustrating card to make!! The hard part ended up being simple, and the simple part took forever!!! In the end, my card is not quite how I had it pictured in my head...

I got to work by stamping our new EEEEEkk background (402H) using versamark ink on lime green cs and embossing it with clear powder. Deciding to add the frame was a simple matter of using a marker to "frame" the screams and coloring the inside with a tombo black marker. I went over it 3 times to get a smooth solid black, then made sure to wipe off the eeeks and ooohs with a tissue to get off the extra ink. After letting it dry for a couple of minutes I stamped our Spooky Eye Background (647H) right on top using versamark ink and embossed it with white embossing powder. This was supposed to be the hard part of my card, and I was done in about 5 minutes - and it came out better than I thought it would. How cool is that?

However..... the rest of the card was supposed to be simple. All I needed to do was add Spencer the Ghost and attach them both to a card. How hard could that be???? Well, lets just say that 60 minutes later I was running upstairs to get a 12" wooden skewer so Spencer could hold his Get in the Spirit sign (389F), and 30 minutes after that I was finally finishing up - even the Interlocking Circle Background 512H was the 3rd background stamp I tried!

The good news is that I'm really happy with how this card turned out - I just have to remember, there's no mistakes - only happy accidents! And I have many pieces and parts for future cards that just weren't quite right for this one!

Thanks for stopping by and putting up with my rambling!

This is so spooktacular, Sue! Love your spooky bg and Spencer's sign. Your trials of making it are the story of my life, lol.
