Pop it Out and Pop it Up!

Welcome! I have a real quick and easy card to share this week. I needed to make a couple of thank you cards for my friends who did such a wonderful job at the Akron stamp show and I was particularly happy with this one. The amazing thing is that it went from blah to kinda wow in one simple step.

Here are the stamps I used to make my card ~

Step one is to stamp the star stamp on gold mirror card and once again on gold holographic paper. I used blue staz-on ink, and after it dried I cut out both.

Step two is to flip them over and on the back score lines from inside point to outside point using a straight edge and either an embossing tool or a fine point pen.

Now it's a simple process to fold each point of the star so that the points (long lines) pop out and the short lines push in.

Believe it or not, that was the hard part! Now all that's left is to stamp a dark blue card with our star background stamp using clear ink and emboss using silver embossing powder. Stamp a small strip of matching blue paper with the "you stand out in a crowd" saying, again using clear ink and silver embossing powder. This strip is layered with a strip of silver mirror card and cut flush with the card.

According to the title of this project we're only half done. By folding the stars we've "popped them out". To "pop them UP", I adhered the mirror gold star to my card using a 1/4" of foam tape (I stacked 2 pop dots on top of each other and placed them in the center of the star), then adhered the holographic star on top using 1/8" of foam tape (all in all it pops out almost 1/2 inch from the card!)

That's it! My original idea was to use only one star and it really was quite average, with just the one gold mirror star. My next thought was to replace the gold mirror star with the holographic one. It was only a lucky break that I set the 2nd star on top of the first while it was still attached to the card, and wow it made a huge difference!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S - I've had to suspend Tips and Tricks this week due to computer problems, but check back next week for another episode!

Wow -- the 3-D star would always 'pop', but this one is positively stunning! Perfect sentiment to go with it, too.
